From Primary Arms: ”What does "Special Purchase" mean? MD-RB-AD-FDE-SP comes with a removable 1913 MIL STD Picatinny base. With the base removed, the scope body is NOT compatible with industry standard micro mount systems. The scope body was machined incorrectly at the factory, so MD-RB-AD-FDE-SP is ONLY compatible with the removable base and riser mount that are included with it in the box, and will not fit other aftermarket mounts. MD-RB-AD-FDE-SP is considered a factory blemished optic for this reason.”

I don’t care if FDE is your thing or not. These micro red dots are badass, and you can’t beat this price. http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-special-order-advanced-microdot-md-rb-ad-fde-sp

I would buy this in a second... If California didnt suck! http://modernfirearms.net/en/sniper-rifles/standart-caliber-rifles/u-s-a-standart-caliber-rifles/mcmillan-cs5-eng/

You give me a 12.5" Sr-25 and keep me inside of 300m... I am a destructive force of nature. The concept of a 20" .308 eludes me (for a regular guy like me)

You can always add a blast can to the end, to assist with pressure. Noveske figured that shit out with their diplomat rifle. Although, I think those short Krinks were the first to use a blast can.
-
There’s a Fed out in my neck of the woods that carries a 12.5” .308 in his patrol unit. I don’t know anything about it beyond that. It must be reliable though, otherwise I don’t imagine it passing inspection to get put into service.

How short do you consider “short”? I only ask because I was banging steel with a 13.5 incher recently. That little bastard ran like a champ.

Holy shit!! I have to admit. When I saw that I though “oh crap! He decapitated it!!” I was shocked to see the damage. I’ve seen .50BMG pics from Afghanistan and such. There’s no mistaking a .50BMG hit. I’ve shot 500gr to 750gr... that 750gr is an eye opener!!

Thanks for the story/Report. How much meat did she give you? I’ve been debating on working up a light weight (182 190 grain) subsonic round. Simple math says a low weight subsonic would be really low pressure, but Gemtech an Noveske seem to be running theirs ok.

Nicely done. I’d be tempted to put a second hose in the opposite direction, just below, doubling up on my support. However, not having tried this yet, I’m not sure the extra support would be needed.

If I didn’t have that Rise trigger on backorder, I’d grab this one. Might have to call and swap parts on the order.

3.5-10x is too much for what we do. You even stated that the likelihood of engaging at that target is minuscule at best. Personally I'd never sacrifice my short game, just for the possibility for a long game. All the new 1-6x or 1-8x are more than sufficient for LE purposes and still provide you with a two-eye-open, CQB style, close range optic. Choosing an optic that only goes down to 3x eliminates indoor use. We don't have the luxury of military's point shooting. Every round has to count, so every round must be shot with precision. My personal choice has been, and always will be, the Elcan Specter. It's priced out of most peoples range, but it absolutely is the best (my opinion) combat optic on the market. For magnified optics, flip up 45° offset sights won't help you when you need them most. Even the fastest ones out there, take too long to deploy. Imagine trying to take a a magnified shot at a medium to long range, then your threat unexpectedly pops up at a short range. It would take the same amount of time to dial a scope down to a 1x or 2x, as it would to flip up two sights. Fixed 45° sights or a decent 45° MRDS is the only way to go. I working on an extreme long range engagement rifle that I'm outfitting with a US Optics 5-25x optic. This scope is being accompanied by a 45° Trijicon RMR, for CQB/Close engagement. It's a big cost, but this rifle is going to places where lives depend on speed and precision.

Strictly for a combat application, I personally like the concept of the 12 o’clock iron sights on the ACOG and Elcan Specter for a fast/immediate transition. Ive always said, I I was allowe to buy/supply my own personal patrol rifle, I would ONLY use the Elcan Specter. IMHO, the best combat optic ever made.

Or be like me, and get your FFL. Then you can ship all the ammo you want, right to your door. -

It was painful to watch some of those guys shoot. -
I would think the FPS difference would be from the 1:8 vs the 1:7. There is a lot less drag/friction in the 1:8 barrel. I know I used to get screamed at as a kid for shooting 55gr through the old mans HBAR match too fast. He was always afraid I’d burn out that old barrel. Is that a normal speed? That speed seems a little slow, even for the 62gr. I remember when Jgun was loading 125gr .300Blk to 2500+ FPS. Just seems like a 62gr should be well over 2600.

I saw those at the last SHOT. The guy cheaped out on the stock portion... it’s just a laminate sticker over the BAD Inc cheek rest. The other parts look good though.

DPMS LR308 Compatible with Armalite AR10?
Robocop1051 replied to steve_podleski's topic in General Discussion
Not really. They just aren’t all created equal. The .308 doesn’t have a “spec” so you may end up with a carrier that doesn’t want to cooperate with your upper. If it looks like a fitment problem, then a different carrier may be needed. I recently had a bad carrier that was off a few thousandths on a shoulder. That little hang up caused a drag mark inside the upper. Just little things to keep in mind with the tricky .308 builds. -

Robocop1051 replied to steve_podleski's topic in General Discussion
You really should stick to Armalite parts, not because they are required, but because they are made better than LR308 parts. I use several Armalite parts in my DPMS pattern rifle. Specifically the bolt hold and magazine catch. -
DPMS LR308 Compatible with Armalite AR10?
Robocop1051 replied to steve_podleski's topic in General Discussion
The upper receiver only really has a few parts; 1. Barrel nut: this is specific to the make of the upper. DPMS and Armalite have different thread patterns. 2. Ejection port cover: the .308 ejection port cover is universal. 3. Forward assist: TBH, I hate this feature and don’t have a use for it. They are also generic and universal. 4. Charging Handle: I guess we can call this a part. It doesn’t really matter though, because they too are universal (unless you buy an RRA). 5. Bolt: it doesn’t matter which one you choose, as long as you match the barrel design. 6. Carrier: there’s a common belief that the bolt and carrier should match. This is an old school mentality and not really a factor any more. Get a carrier that fits your upper and should be ok.
