Might have to call them long action and short action AR's. I've built a few .338LM AR's and we just keep calling them "the big one". Looks like I get to scale down to a 300WM soon. Hopefully by summer.
With an .875" barrel, I was limited in my options. I have a DPMS steel set screw version. If the rest of your rifle is squared away, there won't be any difference between a $35 steel LP/GB and a $100 Adj GB.
My plan was for a "Featureless" rifle. If built correctly, it skirts around all the stupid AWB laws in Ca. I wanted an Ares Defense SCR lower with a Magpul SGA Stock. Then I'd attach the 16" ARAK-21 upper. I was just waiting for the extended handguard to get released before I committed to building it up.
The only other post I could find from you (you've now posted twice, so it was easy to see what post you were talking about) was made as a comment to your own picture you uploaded into the gallery.
The big thing about the Faxon is their bufferless system. It is almost identical to the AK platform. They were supposed to release a model with a longer handguard, or at least a handguard extension. I saw the model at SHOT2015, but never saw a release for it. It would be my first question to them at SHOT this year (next week). Unfortunately I cancelled my trip this year. I have too many family responsibilities that come first. I'm definitely going next year.
I like the Faxon system. I was very tempted to grab one for a "California" rifle. I have a x39 build sitting on my bench. It's been there a while. I have an Adams Arms conversion kit waiting to be installed with it. I also have an ASA side charging upper for it. I guess I just figured I'd build my own afterall. The only part missing is the bolt. I'll likely buy a LMT bolt when I'm ready. I'm just waiting for a special lower receiver so I can have it reg'd as a pistol.
I think the new ACT triggers come with two sets of springs. I have an older ACT and I replaced the combat spring with a JP yellow spring. It's at close to 4# now.
Funny how this came out just as I am contemplating a laser for my duty pistol. The only one I'd choose is the LaserMax guide rod system. I already have a Surefire X300 Ultra with a DG switch, mounted on the rail. I would've bought the X400, but holsters (triple threat) are near impossible to get/find. My father has the guide rod laser in his Kimberly TLE/RL Custom. He loves his and has no complaints. I won't lie. I only want the laser because it looks cool.
Whatever it was... it looked like a brass 12g with a .30 cal erection. It felt like a Mike Tyson punch. The first shot knocked me stupid. I think the second shot I shit myself and the third shot made me sterile for a month. I never had a rifle hurt that much.
Hornady 155gr AMAX .308 California Black Bear, approx 300# 60 yard head shot, left ear to right ear. Damn near decapitated her. The skull blew into fragments, but remained inside... mostly. She was DRT. She never even knew she got hit.
I know a sadistic bastard who owns a lightweight Mod 70 in .300SAUM (I think that's the caliber). I was foolish enough to fire three rounds through it.
