There are requirements for mailing firearms. USPS won't do it, not for a complete firearm. UPS and FedEx are different, and in certain (many) circumstances, they require that the firearm be Overnight Air Shipment. That's a hefty pricetag. Also now, we have intra-state firearms shipments. Different states have different laws - laws, not regulations. You'd need to research the laws for both states in order to pull this off. Sometimes, from one certain state to another, the only way this is going to be legally possible is if you ship from an FFL to an FFL. Dealer to dealer. Check shipment regulations and state-to-state laws before anybody thinks they can mail a rifle out to another person. <thumbsup>
Robocop1051 Posted February 8, 2015 Report Posted February 8, 2015 Think on the first page rob mentioned GPS tracking on the first page The cheapest way... •buy a cell phone back up charger •plug in into your wife's smart phone (iPhone work best) and toss them into the rifle case together. •you can track a smart phone through a linked app... like "Find my phone"... from any computer or other smart phone. Everytime I lose my phone in the house, I do this to give myself a 3m radius of where it might be. It's not exact, but it's pretty damned close. The battery combo should have PLENTY of life in it to track in real time from the plane to the luggage. If it got on the wrong plane... Greg... you'll know exactly which state it's in and be able to track it immediately... rather than some barely English speaking turd trying get to help over the phone from 10 states away.

PSAPA10 Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 I've flown several times with multiple firearms and ammo without any issues. I believe the Federal limit for ammo is 11lbs per person. I've only flown with Southwest and they were very gun friendly. In fact, Southwest told me I could fly with an unlimited number of firearms as long as I was willing to pay for anything over their generous weight limits.

TSA has always been very professional and accommodating. 11 pounds of ammo is the max amount but I've never had anyone ask to weigh it.

Certainly, these can be broken away from the case, but it is how it is intended to be used, is it not? Is the cable necessary?

Interesting stories and tasty recipes. Also, I bought the Pelican 1750 after culling much feedback from the world wide interporn. It is a beast. I have not air traveled with it yet though. With a DPMS Gen 2 Bull + scope (~15#) it weighs ~35#. But the story goes that this case was tested by the military by dropping it out of a plane at 20K feet with a .408 CheyTac in it and it didn't lose zero. Maybe an urban legend, I don't know the specifics. In any case, the interporn says the TSA likes this case and I like it too. Plus, it looks cool at the range. I don't have a pic handy but I just weave the cable through all four "locking points" and then secure the two cable loop ends with the lock closing inside the pre-molded lock points. Is that really necessary with a Pelican case? Short answer is no but the cable works especially well with the lesser gun cases that have more "locking points ". I'll give you an example: the KAC SR-15 I purchased came in a regular hard side gun case, not as secure as the Pelican, Stormcase, and the like, so the cable was especially nice for my piece of mind. I will grant you that locks only keep honest people honest and that dirtbags will more than likely steal the entire case rather than break the locking points and attempt to hide the weapon in another manner until they can get it off the premises. Does this adequately answer your questions?

I like the idea, don't get me wrong. A case with a perfectly matched cable, that wraps around the case and then gathers at 1 of the shackle holes, might do the trick.

I carry a 45 sig p220 hand gun with two spare 10 round mags in the car at all times, and sometimes I might even have my 45-AR15 carbine with 10 30 round mags with me to. it all depends on what I am doing.
