yeah I see the wolves more than coyotes where I am. seems to be plenty of deer though, so I don't think wolves area problem yet. although everyone still hates them. I think it's one of those things people grew up with and so will only die with time.

You keep thinking that way and one day you will wake up and there will be no deer or moose or elk and you will kick yourself for not killing every one you can you can not kill them all but they can kill animals enough that it effects your hunting seasons before wolves the Clearwater herd of elk numbered approx. 22,000 animals now it is around 3,000 I hunted a area on the St. Joe river for almost 30 years now there are almost none! it has nothing to do with growing up with the idea that wolves are bad, we are the apex predator now man manages the herds that he hunts wolves thrill kill when there is a abundance they eat very little and leave the animal to rot ....eff em.....

Decision is made, I am going with a 308 for starters, then after that will get a 6.5 upper set up so I have the best of both worlds. and I am 97% sure it is going to be a Live Free Armory rifle, lite hunter in 20in. should be able to get it around the first of the year, with the savings account says ok, and then a Luepold fire dot, wind plex scope. want to shoot some long range matchs in the spring to tune myself up to get back into deer hunting next year. 65yrs young. LOL

Lived in Evergreen Colorado for a decade.  The floor elevation of our house was at 8,500 feet and 30 below was almost shorts weather.  Agreed though that as I get older (69 doesn't feel old as yet) I prefer a little more temperate climate, but I still wear shorts and a tee shirt with temperatures in the 40s and am quite comfortable.

I have to ask why a 20 inch barrel that gun will easy be 10lbs plus probably more like 11and 1/2 that is a lot of gun to tote around hunting I use a 16 and have no problems getting 5 inch groups at 500 and for hunting or gongs that is plenty so get your 6.5 or which ever one you will use for hunting in a 16 and your gong barrel in 20...

I agree.  The 6.5 Creedmore that I built with an 18" heavy barrel is over 10 lbs with scope, even with a polymer lower.  It shoots fine but taking it hunting in the field really requires a shooting stick or kneeling for longer shots.  For paper or steel at 500 yards plus from a bench it is consistently in the center.
