A perfect AR10

No, not trolling, too much info from you anti gun nuts lol...! I'm into hog hunting. I have the Lapua for bigger long range shot, I'm literally destroying my face with the telescope that I have on my riffle.

Looking for rapid 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th shots...I'd like the recoil to be as low as possible. I was thinking a 308 will be more then enough of fire power.

Sorry for the delay, I got locked out, new to this forum...

All depends what style hunting you do. Are you sitting in a blind? Are you driving them with dogs? What ranges are you taking shots from? All this is going to play into your build.

I personally would build a flexible hunting rifle knowing I could set up in a blind with a bi pod or bag and still be able to drive them. So I would want something light, probably stick with a 16" or 18" barrel to keep the weight down.

Stalking...we do use my two 200lb Rottweilers on occasion when the pigs are big and need running...

Ar15 is small I think, it works but I want it to drop. With the 15 you have to hit just right with correct ammo to drop. I'm sure folks are gona say I suck but itshe the truth. 223s don't penetrate large hogs.

I think a 308 is good, 338 is a freaking hammer. I'm also 250lbs so carrying these guns isn't an issue, I'm the idiot who stalked with the Barrett 50...we had no meat left but it was fun. LoL

I'm looking something tactical, tactical store, accessories, low recoil and I think 308 power should be enough.

Your right 223/556 is to small imo unless your head shooting.

Lemme get this straight tho youve shot 50bmg and 338 lm and 308 recoil bothers you?!?

Welcome to the forum feel free to post in the intro section

I gotta agree with trooper and JJ, left the door pretty wide open we need to narrow it down a bit, but there is now holy grail of 308 caliber ar's

Yeah I sure did, I've wanted one for a long time but after this last TX hunt...damn pigs are coming from everywhere, shooting with a bolt action 338 is a recipient for SCOPING!

I also don't want to spend several thousand dollars on something that I don't need. This one is my hog killer. Usually in a stalk we'll walk onto a group of 7, 8 hogs...bolt action sucks, I used my 1911 after scoping myself the second time. I like the black tactical look, pistol grip...I like the silver berral look...recoil as low as we can go in a 308. Something like these...

ok, well first of all, I would say those barrels are around 22" or so. if you are going to be stalking and shooting within 300 yards, definitely don't need such a long barrel. even 16 in barrels can put rounds accurately down range at over 600 yards if it is a good build and you have the ability to shoot that well.

and the scope on the bottom one especially is not very functional for hunting, it's more a target or just straight up long range scope where you are either going to be sitting at a bench or in the prone.

those barrels are also bull barrels, nice and rigid and takes longer to heat up, but heavier than need be since seems like you will be firing maybe 5 shots and actually be carrying this rifle. and I am a fan of bull barrels, just don't think you need one for what you are looking for.

the rifles in the pictures are going to be heavier than you need.

a build that comes out something like this I think would be good for you

Thanks, the recoil from a 338 doesn't bother me as long as I'm stationery and shooting single rounds but when these bastards come out my scope just likes to rearrange my face...I'm no puss but that crap hurts!

Thanks everyone for the help..!!! Smartass's too...lol

Bates    like ARtrooper stated those two rifles in the pics are not even close to what you need.... 16" barrel and a holographic sight for using both eyes open is what you need.....   dont  doubt the 300 blackout though ...its an ar15 with 30 cal smackdown......did you build your ar15 or buy it?  reason im asking is cause all it needs is a barrel change....same bcg and mag...you should change your 223 to a 300 blackout even if you build a 308     Wash

Just a thought: while it adds a little weight, a 16" bull barrel gives you a lot of flexibility as far as distance accuracy in a shorter, handier package. If you are going up and down the side of mountains, go with the shortest, lightest 308AR you can find. A pencil barrel, etc. etc.. It Sounds like you want something fairly mobile, but those pictures would indicate you also want something with high accuracy potential. You won't lose anything with the 16" barrel versus a longer one until you get well past 500 yards, and I find the heavy barrel makes for a really secure platform for longer shots.

If you want a 308 , as said above , the 16" is all that is needed , unless you plan on mostly long range shots , but for quick shots the 16" would is a fast swinging rifle . I'm not a fan of Thin Pensile Barrels , to me on a 308 , a med. contour is a better choice IMO. Stainless Steel barrel , be is a good choice for a hunting rig.

3x9x40( 50 )scope is good , but if wanting quick closer range shots , a more compact scope may work better for you . Having a very low mounted Scope on any AR can be problematic for most large framed men or women , to get proper sighting through it .

Stock choice , is a matter of what fits you & what you plan on using the rife for , Collapsable stocks are good for a verity of reasons , adj. length of pull , if wearing a lot of heavy clothing or Tactical gear , Rifle stocks work good ,but are not adj. , if not needed , the Magpul MOE rifle stock is an great rifle stock , much better then the A2 AR stock .

A good FCG ( Trigger ) is also important , there are so many now a days , look in the various sections on 308 parts here on this sight & you will get a feeling on what most are using & what other components are the most popular .

Make a list on what you intend on using & the manufacturers & the comments will follow . Know this , the 308AR Platform is not like its little brother , some manufacturers don't play well with others , there are no real comparable spec's like on the all MilSpec AR 15 .

Bates sounds like be a good candidate for 300blk out. Good out to 200 yards and has serious knock down power. My buddy has a 16 inch 300blk out. Very fun to shoot. Ammo is much easier to get now and you can run standard ar15 mags. Recoil is not bad at all little bit more then 223.

I've known NEMO/SI-Defense/Falkor for some time now. They make great products. I don't know anyone that can afford their newer stuff. As good as they are, they might be priced out of the market.

Yea but that 300wm AR looks dam nice!!!
