Jetdoc Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 Gents , This is my first 308 build. I have a matched receiver set Jack 10 ( Sharps Brothers). The following is a preliminary list of Barrel , BCG and Trigger. 1) Barrel, 18.5", .308 AR, Light Weight, 1x10, Chrome Lined, Threaded, Match Quality, FA by Criterion. 2) Bolt Carrier Group, .308 AR, NiB (Nickel Boron Coated) with Staked Key, Includes Complete Bolt (OR) Bolt Carrier Group, .308 AR, NiB, with Staked Key, JP High Pressure Complete Bolt 3) Super Dynamic Combat (SD-C) Trigger Thoughts /comments?
MikedaddyH Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 1) The barrel you have listed is probably great but over the top. Now most modern stainless steel barrels are good enough. The chrome lining is not nessarly anymore.
jtallen83 Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 I agree on the barrel, skip the chrome lining and go with a QPQ/nitride finish. Same or better corrosion and wear resistance without the accuracy effects of chrome lining.
Matt.Cross Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 It's a great barrel, thanks for supporting forum sponsors as well!

I agree, high quality with good support from the company. Nice choice in a trigger too. Check out the Wilson Bcg offered here as well.
Jetdoc Posted January 22, 2017 Author Report Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) Ill consider all suggestions. I went back to CROTW show this morning and had a great chat with a vendor regarding parts. The vendor had a few of these barrels on hand ....Thoughts? http://faxonfirearms.com/18-medium-tapered-308-win-mid-length-4150-qpq/ Thanks Gents. Edited January 22, 2017 by Jetdoc
survivalshop Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) Criterion makes a Chrome Molly Barrel with Chrome lining & they say their Chrome Lining method , does not effect accuracy . As said , I have two SS Barrels with out the Nitrate treatment & they shoot better then I can any day. Had an 18" I sold that was the Hybrid contour ,SS with the Nitrate treatment & it sure was easy to clean . Faxon is regarded highly here . Edited January 22, 2017 by survivalshop

It hits what I aim at, cleans very well, is lighter than many 16" barrels, and put 3 deer in the freezer. I liked it so much I bought a 16" .223 pencil barrel that is also QPQ coated AND LIKE IT JUST AS MUCH.
Jetdoc Posted January 22, 2017 Author Report Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) Thanks Gents.....Your comments , opinions and experiences are very much appreciated. What should I be aware of regarding buffer tube , spring and buffer? I'm planning on using a fixed stock on this build. Edited January 22, 2017 by Jetdoc
edgecrusher Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 You'll need a rifle length buffer , spring and receiver extension. Pick your stock
Jetdoc Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 10-4.....BTW the vendor I was chatting with also recommended the Wilson BCG.
beantown Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 This is going to be another awesome build! Gawd I love the 308AR platform.
Jetdoc Posted January 23, 2017 Author Report Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Thanks Beantown! I have some ideas for the Receiver group before assembly. I want to add some color ( cerakote ) and a few engravings. On the L/H side of the upper below the picatinny the phrase; si vis pacem, para bellum with a Cross of Loraine and on the R/H side just rearward and low of the case deflector her name Baba Yaga. For now heres a oic of the receivers. Edited January 23, 2017 by Jetdoc
beantown Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 Like the 308AR doesn't have a big enough tude as it is. You went and got the jack! Fricken awesome man!
Jetdoc Posted January 25, 2017 Author Report Posted January 25, 2017 (edited) Gents , Can anyone recommend a company that has a artistic flare with cerakote and /or engraving? Edited January 25, 2017 by Jetdoc
