BK.RD.RNR Posted October 28, 2017 Report Posted October 28, 2017 (edited) Hello all, I'm brand new to 308 AR platform, and I probably only know enough to cost myself a bunch of money and agravation. I have built a couple of AR15s myself, and have been pretty happy with the results. I am now interested in building an AR308 with an intent to lean towards a longer range precision rifle (as that would compare to a 5.56). Of course, as I'm sure others have experienced, it is much more difficult to navigate the "what works with what" minefield than it is with the AR15 platform. I was hoping that someone might be able to offer some links to reliable and easy to disseminate information on these rifles. Everything that I have been able to find is very confusing, or offers little information for the novice. I will be building on a DPMS Gen 1 style lower. It would be great if there was some type of table or spreadsheet somewhere that easily lays out what internal parts will crossover with the AR 15, and who offers precision barrels/ BCGs/ uppers and other parts specifically for Gen 1 DPMS lowers. Any help, advice, and links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and I am looking forward to learning from the wealth of experience collected on this forum. The best thing you can do is start a tech or build thread in the appropriate section, and ask questions. The information will flow, links will be posted, etc. There's a TON of great parts you can use on DPMS-based .308ARs.

Find out if your 80% lower manufacturer makes their own upper. If they don't, call them on the phone and verbally ask them which upper they recommend to run on their lower...

BK.RD.RNR Posted October 29, 2017 Author Report Posted October 29, 2017 The lowers are 5d Tactical. They do offer their own uppers too. I was planning on ordering a billet upper from them too, just to insure simplicity, but was not aware that it was that important. Thank you for the suggestions.
