45LC Lever Guns

Nice rifle Sketch.  45LC lever gun is on my current search list. Haven’t figured out which one I want though. It’s gotta be something a little different. My next lever gun gets bought in memory of a friend who passed earlier this year - he was a lever gun nut.

I would urge caution about Rossi lever guns.  They are not necessarily bad.  It is hard to find parts.  My brother has one that a screw holding the lever broke.  It took me weeks of looking before I found one online.  I had to email the guy and ask since he was "The Rossi Guy."

Hood to know. Thanks for the tip. I haven’t really been a fan of the Rossi guns. I can’t say why, it’s just one of those names that don’t really pop up as something I’d go looking for in my mind. Don’t have anything against them and they’re probably fine firearms, just don’t do it for me I guess.

Took ol Henry to the range today. Bench rest was a 98 tyfighter made by myself. They are rocking solid. My rifle shot right by 3 inches confirmed by the lefty vet. Elevation was ok at 60 yds. But do I need to drift the front sight to get closer to bull? Asking for Henry shooters?

Just saw this old thread Sketch. You probably did it already, but I drifted my 44 mag Henry front site to get it dead on at 75 yards.

Did that several years ago, Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag and Colt Anaconda, same caliber. It's a blast! You would not believe how many times someone has offered to buy those guns from me!

Well just picked up an older used Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag today for $300. Have to get the loading gate repaired, but couldn’t resist. A counterpoint to my Henry 44Mag Big Boy.

You stole that!

That is why I grabbed it. The previous owner did a few questionable moves with it, like taking the front and rear sight off and putting a scope on it, But at that price I can afford to mess around with it. Reading a couple of Marlin forums about what to do to fix that loading gate, then I will take it out and shoot it.

Nice find @Sisco I guess today is the day..  I went to the lgs and put hands on a Henry x in 45.70 today.  I'm guessing if it's available next week it will be spoken for!

👍🏻I like my Henry Big Boy, I know you will like the 45-70. Just wear lots of ear protection. Which length barrel? I got this for a knock about truck gun that isn’t too big.

Now I am really feeling guilty. I went on a Marlin 1894 forum, found the fix was four twists of a jewelers screwdriver, and am wondering what to do with the $50 I talked them down because it needed to be “fixed”.

Don't feel guilty brother. You're the one that figured it out.

I tell people at work all of the time, I get paid for what I know, not for what I do.

Nice lookin rifle by the way.

Shoots very well. The first shot was 3 1/2 feet to the right. Had it dialed in by 5 shots to 1” high at 75 yards. As accurate as my Henry, but not as comfortable to shoot. It’s smaller, lighter, and with my 3x hands not a lot of space in the lever. The Bushnell variable scope is stuck on 3 power. Pretty common with these old Bushnell's. A little moisture gets into the steel threads on the power selection ring and it rusts tight. Had this before on a Remington 760. All in all very satisfied for what it is.
