After being in AZ for 17 years, my wife and I are looking around for a change. We're starting to look around to see what our options are and probably plan for the move in 6-12 months.

We'll be relocating both the family and business (engineering/manufacturing/CNC stuff) so it's going to take some major planning on our part. The great thing is if we plan this carefully, the sale of our current house will pay for everything upfront and I'll be mortgage & rent (shop) free for the rest of our lives, which gives me the freedom to do what I want with the engineering company. :D :D :D

Right now we are looking at:

NC (probably Greenville area)

IA

.....anyway, I'm taking suggestions from you lot. Perhaps you can think of something I haven't yet considered.

TIA!

Former BIL lives in Gadsden, Alabama.

Good weather and I can't believe how cheap nice homes are selling for. The reason I believe is Alabama's depressed economy. Hard to make a living there. But if your business isn't location sensitive then it could be a real boon to your bank account.

I will trade all the moving help you can possibly use for the opportunity to learn and utilize the CNC machinery. All you have to do is bring yourself on over here to North Carolina!

Probably a few acres of land, enough for the house and a separate workshop/garage on the property for the biz. House must have 5-6+ beds 4+ baths, neighbors who don't complain (or far enough that they won't complain)....trees would be great for a change. Trading city life for a simpler, quieter country life.

Game - hmm haven't given that a thought but it would be nice to be able to walk out my backyard, shoot some targets and not get in trouble with the law....  <laughs>

BTW, my family is pretty multicultural (I'm asian, wife is white, we have adopted kids of various colors). Not sure if there are places I should avoid.  <lmao>

Come on down to louisiana brother. Weathers mostly hot down here except this year so far with this global warming we have n all lol. I live on the northshore of lake pontchartrain and its wonderful. Ample land, country, and only 15 minutes from a longhorn steakhouse lol.

You'll get the best bang for your buck in the rural South, LA,MS,AL,AR. but obviously there's a lot more to consider than that. Cost of living, quality of schools, TAXES, gun laws, scenery, will you need to hire employees ? what color state do you want to live in blue, purple or red? Some states have no state income tax,e.g. Texas & Florida come to mind.

ALL things considered I'd have to say Eastern Texas. <thumbsup>

Do the trees have to be taller than you?

I'm 5'4" ....Aren't they all taller than I am?

Our oldest was pushing for Louisiana... I think she spent some time growing up there.

No mountains here in southern LA (no hills either). But we actually do have four seasons... Mardi Gras, Crawfish, football and hurricane.

Cost of living is relatively low, there is skilled labor here, and as long as you stay out of flood zones A and B (it's easy) you're good to go.

Yes and the humidity here will make you feel like you're back in the jungles of S.E.Asia packing that m240. Lmao.... my wife's from the Philippines and she can't stand how hot & humid it is here in South Louisiana.

I'd say Iowa only because we're looking at making that border leap, just to get away from WI taxes.

There's hotbeds of Klan in central area that are not happy to see mixed couples, take a look at Iowa City and the business tax benefits for moving there.

Shibi Nowhere's but Texas....no state income taxes.....friendly to business and guns

no harsh winters.....friendly folks too :) Wash

Oh, and since things are bigger in Texas...you will grow to 6' at least

I wouldn't recommend Asheville to anyone. It's a pretty place, but it's practically a miniature California as far as the people & politics are concerned. It gets better and better the farther from Asheville you get though.

And there arnt any trees so you don't have to worry about that, lol. Think if I moved anywhere it would be west, I don't mind winter actually I enjoy winter for the most part.

I when I was in the north part of Idaho 15 years ago they were bitching about all the Cali lefties moving into the south part, buying up the land and chit, Not so much anymore?

southern Idaho is not the same Idaho I live in I would not live in southern Idaho it is mostly a flater drier parts of the state if is was looking here I would look in northern and north central Idaho where the terrain is like in the pictures..and the population is more diversified plenty of room here more desert there(south:) as for Cali people no one really cares when the move first started many folks from Cali came here and brought their cali attitudes with them that has sense changed, most who come here understand why they want to live here and park the attitudes at the state line.....  and many from cali came here found it to boring and moved......
