j.peace Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 A few months ago I assembled my second complete ar 15 . it was my first rifle length build . I bought an adjustable gas block off eBay. I paid 30.00 for it too good to be true. The only cartridge I could get to run smooth was American Eagle .556. Virtually very other cartridge would short stroke. I removed gas block and rechecked placement twice. I even blew through a tube while placing gas block. I ran carbine buffer Assemblies. And Rifle length. Still no change. I bought a new BCG no change. I fired 500 rounds for break in . no change. So finally I bought a Yankee hill clamp on gas block. Holy cow . my ar finally woke up. Now it shoots anything I feed through it.I didn't mind buying new parts because that gives me spare parts for my next build. But I do hate throwing a part in the trash where it belongs. So Stay Away From The Cheap EBay Adjustable Gas Blocks.
blue109 Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 you can replace "gas blocks" with "any gun part" and your post is better off.
Robocop1051 Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Buying used gun parts is like buying a used condom... just because it worked well for the last guy, doesn't mean you'll have the same results. Ebay is not the place to skimp and save. Too many fake products out there.
blue109 Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 I buy lots of used AR parts (and sell alot too) but only trusted name brand stuff. never off brand junk. if I'm holding a controlled explosion a few inches from my face, I'd like to know some R&D and quality materials were involved.
Robocop1051 Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 I buy used parts, when the venue is appropriate. I'll buy and sell to you guys, because we all have that understanding of trust. I won't buy from EBay or GB without doing a LOT of homework on the seller first.
shepp Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 eBay reminds me of knock off shopping in china, looks right feels right but you get it home and it falls apart right away....
shibiwan Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) eBay reminds me of knock off shopping in china, looks right feels right but you get it home and it falls apart right away.... Wait till you buy stuff from alibaba.com. "Made in USA" components from Chinese factories. A buddy bought a bunch of solid state switches and none of them work! Return policy? Yeah right. He's now stuck with 100 rectanguar hockey pucks that take 3-phase power. <laughs> Edited June 19, 2014 by shibiwan
j.peace Posted June 19, 2014 Author Report Posted June 19, 2014 It was a new part . now its headed to the landfill
survivalshop Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 That gas block may just have something blocking or restricting gas flow or passages drilled incorrectly . you say its adjustable , is it adjusting ?
j.peace Posted June 19, 2014 Author Report Posted June 19, 2014 It was a set screw adjustable gas block. When I originally put it on. I had set score half way in like the directions said. After backing all the way out and still short stroking I removed gas block. Locktited the set screw open and checked for blockage. Then I reinstalled double checkeng alignment with mic. And blowing through tube with hose. Still short stroking.
survivalshop Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Just because it has flow , doesn't necessarily mean it has enough to cycle the action . If you want , you can send it to me to check out , seems your planing to scrap it any way & i can see if I can get it to work . Whats the block size .750" ?
unforgiven Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Buying used gun parts is like buying a used condom... just because it worked well for the last guy, doesn't mean you'll have the same results. That is priceless, sounds like a disclaimer. <lmao> <laughs>
