Harsh lesson for sure, example made.

25-Life would be a small worry if someone "swatted" me and I lived.

At the same time, prosecuted federally under the "Patriot Act" provisions.  8 years state time would be MORE that satisfactory, compared to 25 minimum federal.

I hate SWATTING as much as the next guy and these guys certainly need to be prosecuted, however the pranksters are only partly to blame.  Utilizing SWAT in an intelligence vacuum is a recipe for disaster.   Special Weapons and Tactics involves more than kicking in doors and tossing flashbangs.....it appears some departments are forgetting that.

Hey, they spent all our tax dollars on paramilitary equipment and hardware for the SWAT team, so they're eager to bring out the toys to play. Who cares if it's a prank or it's a legit call. Doors aren't getting busted down by themselves!

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Imagine the media frenzy when you get a call like that and send the volunteer senior patrol to verify the incident first...what's a station to do? Hit it hard and hope it's a lie.

^^^  Hmmm...  Based on the fact that he's 16, he's "ineligible" for the death penalty.  They need to make an exception in this case...
