  1. I hope its just a tag that the owner lost, while there. Respectfully Terry
  2. Again, from "Hatchers Notebook", just after WW1, one of the rifiloing machines at Springfield Armory "slipped" and was turning out bbls with a 1-11.5" twist. They shot the std. "ball" ammo better than the 1-10" bbls. So, what did the Military do? Recalled all the bbls, and destroyed them, and went back to 1-10". Respectfully Terry By the way, the origional 1-10" bbls were desinged for 220 grain pills. From the "origional" Kraig-Jorgeson 30-40 rifles.
  3. I just got in a XDS to change the sights to Trigicons. Factory jig broke, trying to get the sights to move!!!!! Found out in an internet searcd that they are "heat swedged": in place!!!! Choices of removal, apply penetrant, and freeze for 2-24 hours, then try, Air hammer, with special ground and heat treated "bit", or mill them out. Factory charges $50, and two weeks turn around!!!!! NEVER in 50 years of smithing have I had this much of a problem!!!! Just how the hell is the shooter supposed to adjust the sights????? Respectfully Terry
  4. Military or commercial?
  5. Balls not brass.........Stainless F'n' steel! Terry
  6. Please DO NOT let the bolt slam on the gagues!! These are precision parts, held to withen a few ten thousandths. The gage should be placed in the CLEAN and de=oiled chamber, and the bolt rotated by hand. Respectfully Terry

This is very interesting!!!! This same thing occured at the origional Springfield Arsenal, during ww1. Major General Julian Hatcher wrote about it in his book," Hatchers Notebook". The 1903 Springfield bbls were heated , so one end could be :bumped" up in size, to create the larger end to thread and chamber. After a couple of bbls burst, the arsnel ran tests, and found the same thing. The bbls had been heated to to high a temp, and kept there to long. They recalled all the bbls, and destroyed them. My first impression, upon looking at the pics was that the bbl had burst, but then, I have read Hatchers book several times. I wonder how many of todays "Experts" have? History DOES repete itself!LOL!! Respectfully Terry
  8. Funny how things work, isn't it? In the '60s, the shop I bought was a authorised Savage repair station. They did away with those befor I bought the store. Still, I saw a bunch of Savages. Funny, I can only rember sending back 2 S&W's, both for bluing problems. My only problem was trying to get enough to sell. I even forged a friendship with a guy in Guam, and brought them back to the mainland. BOY was the Customs Service ever a pain!!!!! Had to get a friend at ATF to run interfience!LOL!!! I was out of the retail business befor the Performance Center started getting big. Never handled one of their guns while I was in business. Respectfully Terry
  9. When I had my retail shop open,,,,,,,,I saw WAY to many Savages come in for repair or adjustment......... Had a Marlin 2000 with the origional blue stock. Very accurate. but I doubt that I put more than 20 rounds through it ,sat in the safe for years, untill I sold it to one of our 4-H shooters Sometimes you just can't get away from old predjucies. Respectfully Terry.
  10. It wasn't that long ago that I was buying 5,000 primes for a little over $68. Respectfully Terry.
  11. The wear occures because the bore snake is NEVER pulled straight through the bbl.1 Its always an angle of some kind. I watched one guy at the rnge who, because the snake was so tight, was almost pulling at right angles to the bore. Shotguns don't seem to matter, as the "crown" is not important as in rifles. Try it, I dare you!!!!! you almost CAN'T pull it straight. Respectfully Terry
  12. My wife and I "celebrate" it by going to the range, and doing a 21 gun salute. Respectfully Terry
  13. OK,,,,,,I guess I'm the sole desenter on bore snakes. it takes a while, but I have PERSONALLY seen crowns that had been damaged by dirty bore snakes. Bore snakes are a variation of the old military bore cleaning kits. and I'v seen a lot of old Winchesters with rifiling worn at the muzzle. That being said, I do have a multiple jointed "rod" that rolls up that I carry, in case of falling and plugging the bbl. Respectfully Terry
  14. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I understand!! my condolences. Terry
  15. I,also, enjoy loading almost as much as shooting. Why did you quit? Respectfully Terry
  16. I'v used HOS form the 22 hornet to the 458 Win, NEVER had a stuck case. Of course, I only spray @30 or 40 cases at a time, And, when I use my 650, I re-spray every time I re-charge the primers, every 100 rounds. I also use the sizing wax when forming cases, like my 260 Rem from 308. I like to size down, rather than expand, as I believe it gives me more neck thickness to turn for uniformity. Respectfully Terry
  17. I have a Leupold 6.5-20 on my 260 Rem LAR8. Haven't really used it much at over 300yds, but I like it! You can only hit as well as you can see. 20X lets me see more. It used to be I could see well with a 10X scope,,,,,,but my eyes seem to age, every year. respectfully Terry
  18. Depends on which siZXde of the chain I'm on. End of the chain,,,,end! not side!!!!...................
  19. If her "anoucment" makes just ONE "regular" woman have her brests checked,,,,,,,,she did a good thing. She and Pitt give 10% of their gross salery to charity, and never publish a word of it. There are a lot of other actors out there that deserve bashing, a lot more than her. Just my 2 cents, Terry
  20. My chain is bein constantly jerked!! Terry
  21. 98Z5V.........Your sense of humor = Priceless!!!!!LOL!!
  22. Ball C2 is another of those powders that have been around forever! When I started out in the retail busness( late 60's) we bought it in 100# kegs, for $50. a keg. and sold it weighed out in brown paper bags for a $1.00 a pound! Used to come surpless from Hogdon. Now its new mfg. Lots of loads in the older reloading manuels. from 222- 30-06. respectfully Terry
  23. Imschur, what kind of 100 yard groups are you getting? Respectully Terry
  24. Sorry, Microgunner. As Towsand Whelan once said," Only ACCURATE rifles are interesting.LOL!! Terry
  25. Just passed on 10 boxes of these, at the local Wallyworld. Had just bought 5 cans of Varget from the lgs. Budget only goes so far.LOL!! Terry
