Bertha is a virgin no more!

Ok ok my wife named all of my rifles and Bertha is my 308AR.  This afternoon she had her deer cherry popped.  Up until today all I had been seeing was doe after doe with the usual fawn thrown into the mix, but things changed.  As I was watching a doe and her button buck fawn mill around the frozen swamp pond about 50 yards away that I hunt near, something caught momma's eye to the north.  I followed her gaze and here comes a buck.  He has his eyes glued on the doe and he is about 100 yards north of my stand.  He walked right in and the doe walked away wanting nothing to do with him.  Her fawn just stood there looking at him as he got within a few feet.  By this time I had the gun up and the scope on the buck but I was literally looking at the crosshair just above the fawn's head right between his ears.  The buck decided to look where momma went and turned behind a tree and I had a brief oh sh&t moment when he disappeared.  Luckily he came back from behind the tree a bit farther out than he was before and gave me a clear shot past the fawn.  He dropped his head to sniff where the does had been and he never knew what hit him.  DRT with a shot to the base of the neck which exited the left front armpit.  He isn't huge by any means, but still a nice 8 pointer.  Its been a long dry spell for me with the rifle so I'm happy to end it and initiate a new rifle in the process.  I had my son in the same stand over opening weekend and his first comment when I told him I got this buck was "you suck".  Kids, you gotta love them.

Its especially sweet since I built the rifle from scratch and handloaded the bullet.

There is always something sweet about doing it all yourself!  Haven't killed anything, except 22's, with a factory  round, EVER!  LOL!

Since I got into gunsmithing because nothing from the factorys was ever quite right.    All my guns have SOME kind of work done on them.

Many built from scratch.   Get an action, fit a bbl, stock, etc, and have at it.

I have yet to ever build or reload. but that is coming soon i hope. Life has not been very cooperative with me professionally, but i am bludgeoning it into submission and taking my place hahahahahaha!! It always seems like i have the money but not the time, or the time but not the money fkkk. I think the two are about to align i have a good feeling about 2017. To take your meat with a gun you built filled with your own handloads, thats good livin!!

Hmmm. That seems to be a common problem around here.
