Being newer to the AR10 platform, I am interested in building the biggest,  flatest, shooting, non-exotic caliber (as possible), that can reach out to 1,000+ yards with the littlest drop in bullet path. Let's hear your opinion. I have been looking at ballistic tables fron different 308 cartridge manufactures and 70+ inches of drop I feel is excessive. Please consider cartridge cost when making suggestion. I will eventually get back into reloading, so I need to take into consideration on what the initial brass investment I will have to make. Is there a 338 Lapua consideration? It seems the US govt. likes to provide that caliber in a bolt action to snipers, but I want an "AR-10 based weapon that is semiauto. Thanks.

6.5 Creedmoor , draw back is Barrel life is 1/2 that of a 308 . 308 ammo is everywhere .

338LM ammo is around $ 100 a box of twenty , can be had for less , but you have to look .  There are AR type rifles made in this Caliber , but the price of them are way up there .

Since you're getting back into reloading - .260 Remington.

My wish list? An upper in the following calibers, 6.5 Creedmore, 260 Rem and a good ole 7mm-08.  Now where did that 300 Win Mag AR go? Never mind, my wallet is screaming just thinking about a 300 Win Mag AR.  Dang you ToolInDie. :laffs:

260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmore. Just understand that you can put together the flattest shooting, most accurate AR type rifle possible, but at 1000+ yards, it probably won't compete with the best bolt actions. But don't let that stop you and keep us informed of your progress. You may end up learning and sharing some new tricks of the trade.

I have an AR in .338LM. I can find cheaper ammo for about $2 per shot, but it's nothing in comparison to my Black Hills or Lapua match ammo.

.300 Norma seems to be the hot new round for Mil applications.

Expect to pay $4000 to $8000 for either one of those.

I have heard some really good things about .300 Norma, Rob, do you have any experience with it?

I got it from a reliable source that Kinessa was never part of any "anti-poaching" company and used her image to get gear for contractors that were overseas. In fact,  the way I understood it, she's never even been to the places that she talks about. Supposedly the African governments caught a metric shiit ton of flak from their media about "American girls coming to Africa to shoot citizens" lololol

she got called out by some REAL operators and she went dark. No one is using her image any more.

Remember when he called her out, also turned out she? Shim? never shot a gun either just turned wrenches

I think for the "flattest shooting" caliber... the .260 Rem will shoot "flatter" to 1k yards over the .338 LM. Anyone find anything that's different from that thought?

.260 Rem slightly outperforms 6.5 Creedmoor. Proven.  6.5C guys don't like to admit that, and they'll fight you over it.

But, they're not correct.

That's 'cause they wanted to be the round that obseleted the .308 and now there's an even better performing round than their pet. Sucks to be them, but at least .308 keeps getting cheaper to shoot.

Well I looked for a 7mm-08 barrel last night and it's slim picking. Any leads on a .260 barrel, and what length? 21 3/4" with a target crown? I take it this would be a custom barrel.
