I learned to shoot the Garand when I was 12. Never been bit either. Dad taught us the correct way to load and unload it. ;)  It takes some getting used to the garand rifle. The more you handle it you will know when the bolt is locked back by feel and sound. It is a great rifle.. but back on topic..

The wood grips are awesome. I wish we could still get the fine craftsmanship.

This is beautiful…as is the story.

The text that was with this 1911…it was owned by an Army officer and did three combat tours in 'Nam.  The owner then took it to Japan and had this work done on it.  The gold plated trigger and extended hammer were a part of the package done in Japan.

This is my carry gun, Harriet. Just a stock range officer, I'm going to replace the sights though. The big square rear sight tends to grab my skin when racking and is a pain to get out from under a shirt in a hurry.post-14880-0-02909600-1405597478_thumb.jpost-14880-0-71064200-1405597593_thumb.j

Thanks, micro. I'm a pretty large dude, sketch so the size and weight of a full size 1911 is really no biggie for me. But I can totally understand that not everybody wants to, or can, walk around with a slab side and two extra mags dragging them down.

Front and rear, I would like something more rounded and with the three dots. I've found the dots really help me get the proper sight alignment quickly when coming from concealment. I think kensight has some good options but nothing quite round enough that will fit the RO. Any recommendations?

I don't remember if the RO has the Bomar type sights or the LPA type. They look very similar but there is a difference. The Bomars have the elevation screw behind the dovetail and the LPA type the elevation screw goes directly into the dovetail.

Harrison design makes a great fixed carry rear sight to replace both.

These are for the Bomar type;

These replace the LPA type;

Meprolight Tritium sights - they are awesome.  Run them on 3 different pistols.  Worthy of a look.  <thumbsup>
