rck
A little about myself . I farm & Ranch and have been shooting since my Dad would let me . Put together my first AR 15 long before it was cool ... 30 + years ago ... do to lack of funds .. now more until the last year or so { then I have gone nuts } Have a number of semi auto 308 platforms including AR-10B and a DPMS in 243 ... but have never put one together was cheaper to by than build. Recently a bargain 24 in. 308 barrel and handguard { DPMS } fell in my lap. Think I will use a Aero upper , and have bolt from Surplus Ammo picked out ... but no one has the gas block I want :( A adjustable gas with a top rail , in .936 size ... so my question is can a AR 15 block be used ?? I measured and the gas port to shelf distance is the same as for a spare AR 15 barrel and the 308 DPMS barrel . So why would it not work ? gas tube different dia. ? Any advice on the matter would be nice ; PS I have looked around , but to read every post ... I want to build it soon... not next year . sketch
What's the porthole size on the barrel and gb? Welcome from Wa.
rck
Port hole is standard for whatever DPMS has on a 24 in barrel , the distance from the shelf is .3 in same as a military pencil barrel I haven't put together yet . the barrel needs a .936 size block . One of the from Brownells said I should be able to use a AR 15 block . The only fly in the pie I can see would be the dia. of the gas tube or location of the roll pin if different than AR 15 TY for the welcome . Robocop1051
A gas block is a gas block. As long as the diameter fits, it'll do its job. AR15, AR10A, AR10B, LR308, SR25, LAR8, even the GenII, They all use the same gas block.

As long as the gas port isn't obnoxiously large and overgassed like the 24" Blackthorne (shudders) barrel my friend's cousin got, the opening of the gas block should be plenty large. The gas port on that awful barrel was 3/16"!!! I suspect they drilled it out larger because their untrained monkeys don't know how to align a gas block properly... rck
Thanks for the information I will get the one I want then , why Midway , Brownells .. web sights show only a limited number of gas blocks for AR 10 type rifles is dumb .. if barrel dia, is the main determining factor .... Finding much useful info here :) TY

rck
Will work on getting a pic of the AR 180 , got a chance to try the new toy { very high wind so didn't shoot much } had to back out the adjustment far more than I would have thought so maybe the 24 in barrel doesn't need it as much as I thought or could be every thing is stiff yet .... after zero at 25 yards could dead center the gong at a 100 yards and a cow pie at 85 .. the crap flies from large cal. ;) Way to windy to try paper at distance .
