After back issues since my early 20's a couple of months ago it came down to this: I couldn't walk 100 feet without stopping for the pain to subside, or stand in one spot for more than three minutes, without being in agony.  I had put off surgery two years ago on the advice of the neurosurgeon, which was the right call at the time, but this years wood supply lay in was the straw that broke the camels's back. Or in this case, Sisco's back. It was supposed to be an hour and a half operation, turned out my L5 vertebrae was so messed up it took three and a half hours on the table. That was a week and a half ago. Today I walked two miles with no pain whatsoever. The surgeon said one of the stenosis (bone spurs) was ready to penetrate my spinal cord, and when he removed it, the spinal cord popped back into the now empty space like a water balloon. My advice to all of you who have back issues: get the best neurosurgeon back specialist you can find, and don't wait like I did, get it fixed and have a new lease on life. The first five days of post op had quite a bit of pain, but now its worth it. Now I can go hike and post targets pain free again, I plan to do a heck of a lot shooting when weather permits.

That's awesome I've had back issues since my teens, my back likes to bow shiftin my pelvis. I love my chiropractor I trust him more than a lot of "real doctors". Disc degeneration runs in my family too which he tells me I've got signs of. I noticed when I dropped weight I  had less issues, I need to get back on that plan cuz I got fat again....,,

Glad you got fixed up I know your pain it's not fun

You have no excuse to keeping your targets at 100 feet now. You're going to have to start using the big-boy range. LOL

Glad to hear you're doing good.

thanks Robo and everyone. Your right on pushing the target distance out. My goal is 500 yards by next fall. Just have to find some National Forest Land I can do it on.

Glad you are doing well.  Back/neck/spinal surgery is nothing to have done by the lowest bidder (insurance company's desire).  The right Dr. makes all the difference.

And this is coming from an eye doc. Armed no less. laughing

You are so right Doc. I did my research through Dr.'s, nurses, and patients. I narrowed it down to one Minneapolis hospital and two Doctors, both ivy league school graduates, who were spine specialists and part of a larger office. They did more and did the toughest cases. Turns out he is also a really good guy. Any body ever need one in that area, PM me.

Bet your shooting improves, also.  That oughta put a smile on your face.  It's impossible to do your best at anything, including shooting, when you are in pain.  Really glad you are feeling better.  Relax and enjoy!

Glad you are better now!  Going under the knife scares the $hit out of me. My mom had two back surgeries. The second one she was walking two weeks later. The surgeons and technics are extremely effective now.

Sounds like it's time for an Arizona trip.  Glad you are feeling better!

Thanks guys. Arizona trip sounds like a great idea. Always wanted to take the Corvette on Route 66. Wonder how much ammo I can carry in that little trunk? Who needs clothes when there's 308 ARs to shoot down in the desert.
