Hi Igon I have never used an aero but some of the members will be along that do have builds with aero....I have several 308's and the longest barrel of mine is 18" all the others 16"...no need for a 20 for target or hunting...these 308's get heavy real quick...a 16" will get the job done out to 500 yds      Wash

I haven't used the Aero upper/lower set.  I did use an Aero upper with my 80percentarms 80% lower.  Quality on both upper and lower were terrific, and the fit between the two was excellent.  Limited experience, but I'd buy Aero again in a heartbeat.  Also, made a couple of calls to them when I was shopping and got good info from helpful people, so CS seemed good to me, also.  I would certainly go with their upper/lower set.

I have a 20"HB ,a lighter wt. 18" & a 16" HB , I can say if your not looking for a one hole grouping rifle , you don't need any more than a 16" . My 20" HB will out shoot the other two , but not by much , the 20"weighs a bunch & not something I would take hunting ( unless it was for long range type of hunting  ) .

The 18" isn't bad with the lighter Barrel , but the 16" is a little faster swinging platform & both would be great for Hunting IMO . All my Barrels are made by Criterion & all shoot better then I ever will .

From others experiences , the Areo's are a good choice & its good to keep the same Manufacturers for the Receivers set. Mega is another good one & have a rear section where the Receivers meet is like an AR 10 , with a slanted fitment .

Keep the questions coming , there is a lot of builders here that have been through the ups & downs of particular Manufacturers components , not to mention over coming fitment & tolerance stacking because of no std spec's for the 308AR's.

I bought my 308 upper & lower separately from Aero Precision and they still matched excellently. I put a 20" Aero barrel on there and it shoots sub moa with handloads. You can build with confidence on the Aero platform IMO.

Regarding your choice for hunting, if it were me, I would also go with the 16 or 18" barrel. Most of your hog shots wouldn't be outside of 500 yards I would suspect a day the 16 should do that all day.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you gentlemen! ! Appreciate the advice, now I am feeling confident on Aero precision, and I am also considering a shorter barrell. Got to wait till Aero has parts back in stock. I did get a couple of Magpul magazines in that were on sale from Midway. This build  will take some time to complete as I plan on finding parts during sales. I will have many more questions, input and opinions are appreciated.

AS someone who does hunt exclusively with a AR 308 I will tell you for hunting you do not want anything more than 16 inch barrel mine is a 1 inch group at a 100 gun I have killed 4 elk and numerous deer out to 306 yards...so if it is to be a hunting gun give it some thought.. have fun...

Keep your eye out here on the board, there are sales posted up quite a bit here, usually in the 'Sales and Coupons' section. Dave Wilson had a killer deal posted the For Sale section on blem complete bolt carrier groups for $135 shipped. You might look it up and check with him to see if he still has some. You won't get a better 308 BCG for that price and his customer service is outstanding!

Here's the post;

I have a Areo M5 setup.Took the 16" barrel down to 14.5 and put a Battle Comp on it,had it welded on to get to 16.1 overall lenght. If I had to do it again I'd put an AAC breakout on the end.Had issues with FTE and replaced the recoil system with Armalite parts: buffertube, spring, and buffer.Damn nice rifle for the money.Has a Rodger super stock,LaRue A-peg grip and a LaRue trigger a brother on this forum turned me on to.I'm thinkin this will be my deer rifle this season.

Gentlemen thoughts on this barrel and the price, quality etc. Thumbs up or down.

Your doing a 308/7.62x51 build or are you building a AR/AK hybrid? Cuz that barrel is 7.62x39 which is the cal. aK 47 and other ruskie guns use.

Thanks Shepp must have copied the incorrect link. I understand they have a 308/7.62 16inch for $ 125. Sounds very low??

Ok yea, I just wanted to make sure you didn't have your numbers crossed.

From just looking at  the companies I'd probably order from, 125 sound awfully low

KAK Ind isn't a "bad" company per se... but I wouldn't put them on part with even the mediocre companies that are out there. They made the claim to fame producing special "AR Pistol" parts, then slowly branched out from there.

If you're just looking for something to blast with, there are far better and worse choices. Most guys jump on a Rainier Select barrel as an entry barrel. They are accurate and affordable.

I will say that that KAK "Value" barrel looks suspiciously similar to the barrels Ares Armor was blowing out before the company changed names - Hmmmm

I bought 2 of them and have only used one, seems to shoot well - certainly not match quality but decent and it headspaced well with a DPMS Bolt.

ThankThanks Robocop, I am looking for something priced in the middle of the road but shoots like something better. I have only built one other rifle, a AR in 5.56 but have only been able to shoot it at 50 yards. 100 years ago while in the Marines I got to qualify 4 times and was 40 of 40 at 500 meters, so although I may not be able to shoot a rifle that well now, thats the kind of accuracy I would like to have.

My aero precision build turned out great. I recommend getting upper trued. I was right at 1 moa before I sent it to Mike at Dedicated Technologies and it instantly shrunk to a solid 5/8" all day. Also, Fulton armory 18.5" barrel is good to go. Rifle length gas is the way to go. Just my .02
