Hi there. Post #1 on this site. Having owned a .308 AR in the past, and missing it, I'm in the process of a .308 AR build. I belong to some other forums, but it seems that the .308 AR doesn't get much love out there. Maybe if the .308 AR industry could just settle on one single standard like the .223/5/56 makers did when they all fell in line with the milspec standard...

Well, I'm U.S. Army retired/disabled. I did 28 years, and was retired after I got blowed up in Iraq. I'm banged up some, but still get around ok though I use a cane most of the time now if I have to walk more than a couple hundred yards. I'm married 20+ years, and we have one of each. The oldest is in college, and his sister will be next year. Both are gun owners well versed in gun safety. Wifey, couldn't care less, but she supports me and knows enough to use a firearm safely. Having had to sell my first .308 AR to pay bills several years back, once we got my VA disability pay and got back on our feet, she even bought me a .308 Savage Axis for my 50th birthday. That got me back in the mood for a .308 AR again. I was thinking of building a .300blk upper for my HD SBR to have a little more powerful hitting round, but I don't reload, and I can buy .308 ammo for the same price, so I'm going big. I'm building a SBR on a CMMG lower I picked up for a fair price. It will have a Aero Precision upper, on order now, and use a stainless Rainier Arms 12.5" UltraMatch barrel. I'm going to pattern this build somewhat after a Noveske Leonidas I saw over on M4carbine.net.  I will also build a SPR style upper for it in the future.

I like 4x4 trucks, and used to enjoy wheeling and camping. (overlanding) Too bad I wrecked my truck (1999 Super Duty) in Dec. I also like classic cars. Any American muscle car from the 60s and 70s. I don't have one, however, I do drive a 2003 Mercury Marauder. Love that car. Big comfy RWD 4 door, on a full frame, with a large trunk, and an american V-8. Pretty quick too with the DOHC 4.6. (same engine as the Mustang Cobra)  Music is very important to me, again, mostly oldies from the 60s and 70s.

I think both hillary and bernie suck as bad as obama. I wanted Dr. Carson, but I'll take Trump or Cruz... unless they can talk Gen Mattis into throwing his hat in the ring.

I look forward to learning, and sharing.

Another Texas welcome and thank you for your service.

I am not one of the experts on building an AR308, but I will suggest searching the site for opinions on CMMG before getting too involved in your build.

Yep we have had some cmmg problem builds....anyway we can talk you out of the cmmg build?     Wash

Not what I needed to read on the first day. Just using the lower. I already have it. I got it last fall and have been sitting on it all winter. It's bran new, never built. Not a scratch on it and all the parts look new. I'll be putting a better trigger in it as well.

I have an early CMMG see. # 0026# , so its with in the first 300 they made ( before they made complete rifles ), nicely done Lower , but it would not function reliably with the first gen. LR PMags . Would work flawlessly with any Metal mag. , but not the PMag . I don't blame CMMG or Magpul , the Lower was made many years before LR PMag came out  & the LR PMag's work in my other 308AR's .

Since Magpul came out with the Gen. 3 Pmag , they have the Mag Catch set lower in the mag , which makes the mag sit a few thousands higher in the mag well & they work fine in this lower now , the 25 rounder works also ( its also a Gen. 3 )& the Lancer Mags work great also , so thanks to Magpul changing their mag , I have no issues with this lower any more . Just shot yesterday with no issues .

I actually like this Lower , but still believe a builder should use same manufacturers Upper & Lower combo .Tolerance stacking can be an issue when mixing Receivers. I have a thread on the issues with this lower , some where . I'm using a Gen. II SI Defense Billet Upper & fitment was not the greatest , so I shimmed the Pivot point & bedded the rear Lug , Rifle shoots great mated with a Criterion 18" bbl.

Got the lower in a private sale. Guy didn't have an upper. We shall see about upper/lower fit later. According to the tracking # my Aero Precision upper is waiting for me at the post office. I don't know how prolific CMMG is, but my ser# is in the 19K range.

Beautiful. Is that an Elcan on it? Drool... I'll be putting an Aimpoint M4s on it at first (because I already have one) but I really want the 1.5x6 Elcan. Love the computer background too by the way.

You put that together drunk R2?  It ain't even centered!  And don't give me that "it's the camera angle" BS...

I threw out a welcome on your other post but then I came in here and read your intro. Well schit! That being said, a BIG thank you for your service and again, welcome to the board!

Yep. That's the 1x4 Elcan. Got a good deal from my local gun pusher (relatively that is). Those fukers hurt the wallet. But I was in love. Ha! Oh, and just for the record Max, that's not a full Noveske gun. Just the Noveske Leonidas barrel (a great stainless SBR barrel). It's all Armalite AR-10 parts except the cheapo CTR stock and the (not cheapo) SWS/Noveske rail.

The rifle? The desk? Or the view-screen? And......it was probably the camera angle.
