Frankysanchez
Hello, been looking to to purchase an ar-10 in 308-7.62. Very confused as to what I should get, as I would like to piece together an ar10 which is going to look as close to this as possible... I'm screwed, right? thanks

IF that's not an original, then it's a pretty damn good recreation of a 1967~1969 XM16E1 rifle, in 5.56 NATO. No brass deflector, no fence around the mag release... If you really want to create THAT rifle in .308 Win, then you need to do some machining to get it exact. Like, machining off parts of current-production receivers that are available. Also, I doubt you'll find a current .308AR upper that has the forward assist, and doesn't have a brass deflector (which could be machined off...). How serious is this project? Frankysanchez
Wow, its not THAT serious. Sounds like you really know your stuff. I'm just fixated on those triangular hand guards, the carry handle, and the front sights. The rest I would like to incorporate some modern ar components. Thank you very much for your help! 98Z5V
In .308AR, that look is do-able. Carry handles are available, to add to upper receivers with a picatinny rail. In all honestly, DPMS-patterned parts are more readily-available than Armalite AR-10 based parts, but you could probably buy THAT look in a full rifle from Armalite, the AR-10. Complete. You wanna build it, or buy it and shoot it?

98Z5V
Out of the box, you can buy THIS Armalite AR-10 rifle, and swap the stock, add the carry handle assembly, and get the look you're after - maybe. It's a 16" barrel, which will be plenty accurate at distance. https://armalite.com/shop/ar-10a-tactical-carbine/ Edited January 10, 2017 by 98Z5V
jtallen83
Welcome from Iowa, via Pensacola! Armalite recently put out a few anniversary editions that have that look; https://armalite.com/the-truth-about-ar/ You may get lucky and run across one. Wasn't to long ago somebody here put one similar together then sold it in the for sale section here. Find his original post and you'll find lots of info on a retro AR-10 build. COBrien
Welcome aboard from Oklahoma. I've recently found myself drooling over retro 5.56mm builds. It's too bad No Dak Spud isn't making .308 receivers, as they produce some of the best-looking (in my uneducated opinion) retro AR-15 receivers I've seen. And they'll distress them for you if you want that "lived in" look.

Reminds me of my childhood for some reason. The he people at armalite were pretty much saying it would be very difficult to put it together. Magwa
welcome from Idaho, go for it I see no reason that you could not adapt those triangle hand gaurds to a 308 barrel.. come on guys is there any reall reason it won,t work? 98Z5V
No, you could put them on. Change the endcap on the front sight base, if it won't accept A2 and triangular handguards, and you'd be good. The slip ring doesn't care which handguards go in there. survivalshop
I might have a Triangular Hand Guard end Cap , if you need it , I will have to look . The early Delta rings are a little different then the newer ones , more round then sloped . & no I don't have one . Yes I do .

Frankysanchez
I'd like to convert this dpms g2 bull, 24 inch barrel. Not sure, it doesn't look too compatible....
98Z5V
First, that's not the G2 from DPMS. They haven't made a G2 with that old-style Hi-Rider upper receiver. That's an old-school LR308 configuration. That upper receiver isn't going to align with any kind of triangular front sight base, to give you the look you're after.
