I may not be your guy then. Texas has little in the way of mountains. It is seldom cool. What mountains there are, are closer to San Diego than the Texas beaches. There are plenty of places for spontaneous vacations though. Sorry for the derail @Electrinkler ... not really, but I thought I should at least say it.
