Sharkey
Hey Guys, I consider myself a damn lucky man. It took me 38 years to find her but my wife and I just have an absolute ball together doing everything from shark fishing and shooting to sharing a Monte Cristo Cigar #1 and a bottle of Non alcoholic champagne on the beach or just talking and laughing before we fall asleep every night. She's one of a kind and I know it. I've always gone to great lengths to make sure that when I had something in my life that I enjoyed, that I found a way to make it easier for her to learn and enjoy with me. With fishing, it was spending more time (at least in the beginning), keeping fishing simple and targeting smaller fish that were easier for her to handle until she gained confidence and was willing AND able to move up to bigger stuff. I spent money on equipment that FIT her since she's just small and have always worked to find ways of making very tough stuff more "in reach" for her. Shooting has been no different. We started small years ago and now she's up to shooting bigger stuff including my AR10 and up to a level where it was time to spend the money on getting her a rifle of her own which she is enjoying fully. I was just wondering how many other guys take their wives out, work with them, teach them how to take care of themselves and find ways to make them safer - ESPECIALLY when we aren't around to take care of things which is what we all just really want to be able to do. Do you guys shoot with and work with your wives to help them be more capable too? Here's my girl. 50 years old (don't tell her I said so though) and kicking ass with her M15 like she'd been shooting it her whole life. And bare with me if I talk about my wife a lot lately guys. I'm not going to get into it and this is NOT a thoughts and prayers thread but we've had some health concerns about her lately and still haven't gotten to the bottom of it all so I spose I just spend a LOT of time thinking about her. Posting about her sometimes seems to help me ease a bit of worry. She's my angel but one VERY tough lady. She's gotta be to deal with me.... Here's my ugly mug too... I find covering the handsome with fuzz tends to keep the paparazzi from bugging me too much... :))
unforgiven
Very cool brother,Mida is my best friend.I was broke and bustedup when I met her.She has always let me live my life on my terms.I used to be a club guy.We left So. Sisco
Unfortunately my wife does not like guns and will have nothing to do with them. I have tried for 30+ years to get her to try shooting, and she absolutely refuses to. But she doesn't raise a ruckus about my shooting. It is something I would like to share with her, but it isn't gonna happen. She has so many other positive traits, I am not going to let that get in our way. She comes from a family with a strong hunting tradition, so it is a bit of a surprise. Edited February 23, 2014 by Sisco

Robocop1051
My wife is a hellofa shooter. I can barely afford to keep her behind the trigger. 98 and Planeflyer can attest to that... I think she burnt through an entire case of 12 guage in one sitting.
shibiwan
My wife isn't interested.... even though she has a CCW permit and all. No matter, more for me!
BigP623
I try to get my wife into it but she's a little to scared of it so far. Ive been trying to get her comfortable with a gun enough to get her concealed carry but i haven't been successful so far. I think it was the first time shooting my Glock she pulled the trigger before I could stop her after she readjusted her grip n the slide got her. Ever since then she's been extra careful and overly nervous about it happening again. I will make a shooter out of her one of these days. Just need to get her out of these suburbs n buy some land so we can shoot out in the back yard whenever we want.

Matt.Cross
Taught my wife to shoot. She's a good shot and enjoys it a lot for someone who never got exposed to shooting early on.
Sharkey
Thanks all and I truly think the "trick" is to start em off with what you KNOW they can handle. Sure, the bigger stuff is more effective. We all know that. BUT, for a woman just starting out, handling any kind of gun can be a scary thing. Start em off with something small and easy to shoot and give em something "inter-active" to shoot at so it seems a bit more rewarding with each pull of the trigger. Like fishing, once you get em hooked, it is SO much easier to move em up than trying to start off with something that might not be very fun. A few extra bucks on something smaller and easier to handle now might make the big difference later one and like my wife, it'll take NO time for her to want to start moving up in caliber and pushing the limits so she can become more effective on a bad day. Great stuff in here guys. Sisco, just cuz she don't shoot don't make her a bad woman my friend. If Cathy didn't shoot, I'd surely still adore her no matter what. God Bless you both for at least finding each other and being happy. Nothing like a good woman on yer arm for life. Sharkey
unforgiven
To get the wife fishing, like with the grandkids was handeling the bait.I am a live bait fisherman crawlers, minnows, leeches. Now she baites up and releases the fish which makes it easier for me when the grandkids come out. Also going the a known piece of water using small hooks to increase the chance of the first catch. Then they are hooked on fishing. <thumbsup>
392heminut
My wife used to shoot USPSA (action pistol) competition with me. I got wrapped up in my son's sports and she got wrapped up in her nursing career and we quit shooting for several years. I'm back to the USPSA shooting now that the son has gone off to the military, and she is talking about starting up again too! <thumbsup>
seasprite
My wife likes shooting in fact I was getting ready to start a similar topic but this will do <thumbsup>. We went to the range yesterday and she wanted to shoot the Beast (DPMS LR308) for once and I was like cool lets go. She shoots hand guns all the time but very little on the rifles she really doesn't like heavy recoil and never shoots my 1911, well maybe now and then but she defiantly favers her 9mm over the .45. So we get the range and I get everything sat up and start showing and explaining the controls on the rifle and had her dry fire a few times to get a feel for the trigger. Now its time for her have some live ammo and the first problem came up the charging handle was a little to stiff for her so I took care of that by charging it for her. The seconded problem she had was getting a good cheek weld, the earmuffs she was using hitting the stock messing with her getting a good feel for rifle but we managed. Now she is settled behind the rifle but having trouble locating our target at the 100 yard mark so I dialed the power back from 10 to 6 so she could locate the target and had her take her first shot. When the shot broke you can tell it startled her a little but she's a trooper and got right back behind the rifle and tried a 2nd shot and got on paper this time <thumbsup>. Now that she's had a couple of shots behind her I turned the scope back up to 10 and had her refocus the scope and try again. After the 3rd shot she was like why didn't you do this before ( remember you were about to shot the target one lane over) oh ya she recalled. Her 5th shot was 1 inch from the bull and the smile on her face said enough (I may need more .308 ammo) Kathy's comments were the recoil not that bad so I may have a new shooting buddy at the rifle range now <thumbsup>. After that her hands got cold and wanted to go and warm up so all in all it was a good day at the range.
Microgunner
Used to shoot with my second wife. She's pretty tough and jumped right into the shooting world with a 45ACP Glock 21 and a 357 Ruger SP-101. No starting off with little calibers. We opened our own gunshop about 1998 and she immediately got her NRA certificate to teach CCW classes. We split up in 2001 and finally divorced last year so she's officially on my loathe list. God Bless ya Shepp. We've all been there with that kinda stuff and know it can be more than a little distracting and painful. As for the "post whoring", well, I haven't seen you post any "crap" so I would say you are just being "diligent and talkative" and all input has been well received Sir. But to be honest, with the stuff we have going on lately, I thank God for some good men and a little forum action as a distraction myself so it's all good man. Bring lots and lots of rags (I like those white terry cloth shop towels - cheap and you can carry em by the bundle) and things for them to wipe there hands on and nice clean ones. It's nothing for us (as males) to come home from a hunting or fishing trip with guts and blood and crap all over our pants and clothes but my wife won't go for that for a second. Gotta have some good rags or towels around and she'll get elbows deep when cleaning a shark or striper or whatever but she'll be looking for a rag every time her hands aren't busy and the first time one isn't, she'll be damn put out over it and then comes the little tiny blonde smacking the 6'2" guy with malice... ^-^ Edited February 24, 2014 by Sharkey

Sharkey
Baby wipes are the ticket brother. I take them with me when I'm night fishing in the surf but for offshore, it's all towels man. Ya just dunk em in the salt water and wipe everything down when you want and we've always just kept running bags of fresh ones onhand so even if you've got a full bag of bloody ones, you can just grab a bag of clean ones and head out. Depending on the grips on the rods, baby wipes can leave you a little slick sometimes if you have just used one and when you have a 15 foot thresher on the line, you don't wanna have slippy hands holdin the rod...
