mbjku Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) I am mixing my ammo for lar8 with some cheaper russian steel ammo, shots OK so far. Any issues on long term? Unfortunatly brass is tough to get with the price less than $.50 per round. Reloads from the known places are not available in good price as well. Should I wait for hunting season is over or Christmas sale for the brass? :) Edited December 6, 2014 by mbjku
unforgiven Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 I don't and won't run steel thru my RRA S.O..You know thier is a polymer coating on steel to keep it from rusting, that has to be cleaned out after shooting.Just my 2 mags.
mbjku Posted October 26, 2014 Author Report Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Cleaning is not a big deal, I do anyway with any ammo. Any harm reports on LAR8? Could anyone suggest online place selling cheaper brass .308 reloads you might suggest? Edited October 26, 2014 by mbjku
98Z5V Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 Only thing I can say is this - the .308 AR platform is not a cheap adventure. Nothing about it is. Research steel cased ammo extraction issues - Google Search it - and that will answer your questions. Do what you want. If you got into this platform to do it cheap, then this isn't the platform you were searching for. I'm just sayin'...
unforgiven Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 I don't run reloads either. This platform is not a cheap date.
washguy Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 MB if memory serves....RRA sez on their site no steel ammo....ot it might have been another mfg I wouldnt ever put steel in any of my 308's.....:) Wash
MikedaddyH Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 Echo on the NO STEEL run thur my 308's ! Think about reloading with brass as an option ! Look for military surplus ammo. That's an option !
blue109 Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 I shot some steel just to make sure I could in my Rainier barrel. would probably buy some for shooting cans if I found it super cheap. if the manufacturers says no I wouldn't touch it though.
unforgiven Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 Why run $hit fuel in a Race car ???
blue109 Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 if I could only run race gas, she would never leave the garage
Rsquared Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 I ran some steel through my 10 A2 carbine once. About 500 rounds. Just cause I wanted to get rid of it and the A2 was my AR10 beater at the time. Didn't do any kind of damage that could be observed. And she still runs great when I take her out. But I've never bought (or never will) bother buying any steel cased stuff anymore. Steel is strictly for AK's and SKS's in my opinion. For what that's worth.

Agree, for no other reason then I value my AR10's more than my other rifles, and I like to reload. But my AK gets nothing but steel and works fine.
shibiwan Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) if I could only run race gas, she would never leave the garage Why run race gas if you're out cruzing the streets in a pathetic attempt to score with a street floozie? <lmao> <laughs> Edited October 28, 2014 by shibiwan

Anyway I agree that still is crap but don't know anyone who got into problems with it. Just placed order of Freedom reloads, cheapest brass I could get so far. Edited October 28, 2014 by mbjku
sketch Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Ahem !! The word cheap cant be used in the same sentence if you are referring to RRA and the wait period?! If you value your time on earth time is money$ shoot away and post up some targets!

Would it satisfy your "my rifle is not cheap..." ego? If you think this is expensive rifle you might need to check Sig's .308 rifles for example. Edited October 29, 2014 by mbjku

If you think this is expensive rifle you might need to check Sig's .308 rifles for example. Please show us where you're buying $2-3 a round and why. There is plenty of brass cased ammo available, and you can order and have it delivered.

Matt.Cross Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Egos have to be checked at the door mbjku, we do a little ball bustin' from time to time, but it's all in good fun and we're largely very easy going folk. Welcome to the forums BTW, always pleased to see new folks arrive. Kick your feet up and make yourself at home!
