shepp Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) i know there are numerous threads on here. I'm going to rattle can my 1187 this weekend. I got it all wiped down in the garage, synthetic bits with denatured alcohol, metal bits with paint thinner. EDIT: I noticed after I let the gun "dry" after its cleaning rust spots in the reciver and dirt in the grippy spots on the fore grip and stock I scotch brighted the rec. and barrel, and brushed the denatured alcohol into the groves of the foregrip and stock. (one reason I want to paint it is the bluing is F'd), and then wiped the parts down again as stated above.I really like the look in the video below, he does 3 colors I may do 4. The gun is already black so I may put a few rubber bands on before the tan, then green and a chocolate brown then finish it off with the tan again. Any tips? shepp Posted September 13, 2015 Author Report Posted September 13, 2015 Thanks guys! Took some better pictures. Not bad for 30-35$ in materials.
edgecrusher Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Yup, great outcome, and price point!
Rsquared Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Not too shabby Shepp. That thing looks pretty sweet. That's a damn good inexpensive (but labor intensive) paint job. You done good brother.
shepp Posted September 13, 2015 Author Report Posted September 13, 2015 Ok back together and ready to shoot some birds in the face done taking pictures I promise lol
survivalshop Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Nice job , now I want to do one , but I think I want it on the darker side . I should start out with the light colors ?
shepp Posted September 13, 2015 Author Report Posted September 13, 2015 I went tan, green, brown, tan (that I started with). If you look there are ghost tan lines from the first coat. So if you wanted darker start with the dark first
Sisco Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Nice job Shepp. Looks like something you would buy at Cabela's. Camo'ed a canoe once, don't know if I would have the artistry for a shotgun.

So if you wanted darker start with the dark first I have to do some experimenting , but the rubber band thing is a good idea . Just have to get the coloring I want for the Winter woods in Ohio .

Just have to get the coloring I want for the Winter woods in Ohio .get a chunk of 2x4 maybe and test on that? You could go a couple shades of green, with brown and black or a gray? There are a good assortment of colors of that krylon at my ace I just didn't pay close attention to them all.
blue109 Posted September 15, 2015 Report Posted September 15, 2015 Been looking at videos of guys using the PA multicam stencils. They come out really nice. I need another sopmod stock and thinking of getting the multicam B5 one
survivalshop Posted September 15, 2015 Report Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) "Ace is the place " When I looked for this paint to camo a new tree stand , Ace was the only place that had a good assortment . I have a Black Remington Syn. 870 stock I can play with . I may look for paint tomorrow on my way back from the range . Now the rubber bands , I'll have to look around , because I may go larger than 1/4 " ? Edited September 15, 2015 by survivalshop
shepp Posted September 15, 2015 Author Report Posted September 15, 2015 I used 1/4 and 3/8 Walmart had both a 1/2-5/8 would have been nice.
