Floydieguns
What is it, then most importantly why? No slamming others, no derailing. Please and thank you. I am looking for other views while preparing for a new addition. Receiver sets, setup configurations and the principal of use behind them. No, I do not have any interest in your fantasy 24" barrel super sniper gas gun. I am certain I have at least one manual bolt long rifle that outperforms in this role. I am talking about real, viable builds. Which parts you would choose and why. No bottom dollar stuff either. Customs are just that. You want cheap, you can buy a shelf dpms pretty rock bottom. For example only - Matrix Arms upper/lower, Criterion hybrid contour barrel 16" with rifle gas. Dwilson bcg, ubr2 buttstock with slash ar15 6.5oz CAR buffer and tubbs 308 action spring. You all get the idea. Again, an ideal build. Not your fantasy top dollar if I were bill gates put on for show. Not your 'super sniper elite'. Real world built rifles that function well. I am interested to see where the general mindset is. Which parts are desired, what is unwanted. Where the 'middle ground' is for a typical rifle that will suit many persons and be considered 'desirable'. Thank you all whom participate Floydie

Since you lay down all the restrictions guess I'd say go to Fulton Armory and buy everything there, get the Criterion barrel. ...no fantasy........no fun. Sisco
Not a build, since I found what I had researched to buy as a closeout when Armalite quit making them. Armalite AR10T "B" model carbine. 16" stainless triple lapped heavy barrel, Rifle gas system 308/7.62x51, swapped out factory stock for a Luth MBA-1, for optics a Primary Arms 1x6 308/223 BDC lighted reticle. At 1x power is a serviceable red dot type as well. Accurate compact and flexible. Edited April 4, 2018 by Sisco

Floydieguns
Not much of a restriction Jtallen83. I said no rock bottom and no supersniperelite. Leaves plenty of room. Honestly.. I was thinking a good forged receiver set with the 16" bbl and a form1 suppressor permanently mounted. Iron sights and a chest rig full of 135 sierra match king batch loads off the Dillon. A wad of ramshot tac squishes to max box length. 135gr jhp @ 2900fps. 25/300 zero on the sights.
392heminut
I can sum it up briefly for me, Matt Cross's AR 308 with the suppressor! THAT gun right there is what I would build! Hopefully Matt will post up what all is in it 'cause I don't know all the details, all I know is I want one!

THAT gun right there is what I would build! Hopefully Matt will post up what all is in it 'cause I don't know all the details, all I know is I want one! It's fairly straightforward, sans discontinued chassis, but you could easily build the equivalent. Chassis: Mega MA TEN Megalithic http://www.megaarms.com/maten/receiver-sets/billet-upper-lower-sets/mts-4440-sa/ Recoil System: Armalite AR-10 https://www.armalite.com/product/ar-10-rifle-length-receiver-extension-kit-no-stock-ar10rekit02/ I use a Chrome Silicone flat wound spring, but the Armalite complete unit is every bit as good. Magpul PRS Stock: http://www.primaryarms.com/MAG672-BLK LAW Tactical Folding Adapter: http://www.primaryarms.com/law-tactical-ar-folding-stock-adapter-gen-3-m-ltgen3m Young Manufacturing 308 BCG: (My current NiB BCG isn't made anymore) https://youngmanufacturing.net/product/308-national-match-carrier-complete-w-forward-assist-chrome-only/ Armalite AR-10 LPK: https://www.armalite.com/product/a10lrpk-ar10-a-series-lower-parts-kit/ CAA UPG 16 Grip: https://usa.caagearup.com/upg16-interchangeable-ar15-m16-pistol-grip ATC SR Gold Trigger: https://americantrigger.com/shop/ar-platform-triggers/ar-gold-trigger/ (Be sure you specify the .308 version) Fulton Armory Mid-weight 18.5" Barrel w/ Rifle-length gas system: http://www.fulton-armory.com/barrelfatitan185nmmedss1x10936gasblock.aspx (Threaded stainless version) SLR Sentry 9 Adjustable Gas Block (and tube): http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=57_103_105&product_id=126 The OPS Inc 12th .30 model is no longer in production, but this is the equivalent... Allen Engineering AE30 Suppressor & AEMB Brake: http://aesuppressors.com/suppressors/AE30.html http://aesuppressors.com/mounts/ (AEMB) GG&G LCB-3 Bipod: https://www.gggaz.com/lcb-3-heavy-duty-tactical-bipod.html I'd forego the fixed bipod though, and get a similar one with swivel capacity. https://www.gggaz.com/heavy-duty-xds-swivel-bipod.html And there you have it, the closest approximation of my build I can give you. Oh, optics info, I nearly forgot! SWFA SSALT 30mm Mount: https://swfa.com/swfa-s-s-a-l-t-30mm-scope-mount.html Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP w/ EBR-1 Reticle: https://eddyswarehouse.online/Item_i1625691 So much discontinued gear.... edgecrusher
That gun shoots pretty darn well. I know, first hand, it’s a keeper! My problem with your question is for me no gun does everything. It’s like asking me to choose one tool for all jobs. Maybe this is why I have several (?) rifles.

Rsquared
20 hours ago, sketch said: if so ill tag Matt's rifle. or R2's .. or 98's unlimited suply of what can you think of. Dude! Which one? We had a pile of rifles when we were all out there last November. Seriously though (kinda). As others have said, pretty much different rifles for different situation/purposes. As an example: A suppressed 300 BLK SBR for short range "quiet" work. A very effective, and scary Hollywood quiet, weapon for short to mid-range area clearing/securing. A Daniels MK18 SBR. A DAMN fine and proven weapon for kicking in doors and clearing smaller confined areas. Coupled with the ability to still stretch out to medium range targets with some pretty good accuracy. An Armalite AR-10 SBR. Screw kicking in the door. Just shoot right through it....or the wall next to it......and the wall on the other side of the room. Still very maneuverable, and still pretty accurate for medium range work as well. An Armalite AR-10 SASS. Capable of being suppressed, and VERY capable of long range work. This is just a handful of different configurations that can be built (or bought), but have very different applications. It all depends on what an individual plans to do with said rifle. As Edgecrusher pointed out, Different work calls for different configurations. And with the crowd that we have around here, we pretty much cover all of the bases for different configs and purposes of AR's, large frame or the smaller AR-15 frame. Along with many different calibers.

"Pile of rifles" can't even begin to describe it. This Fall Shoot, we really do need to get ALL the guns together - including the 17 guns that Rob has concealed ON his body - and get an aerial-view pic of everything that comes out. "Dude! Which one?" This was my exact thought, as well - and why I haven't replied to this thread yet. Every one of my ARs is ideal. Ideal for what I specifically built it for. Only THAT AR can do the job, that I built it for. Otherwise, I would have built something else, or nothing else. "Skip it..., next..." My short 300BLK was the perfect truck gun. Perfect. Until I discovered what a short 6.5 Grendel could do! Now the short Grendel is the truck gun. The short 300BLK is the backup truck gun... It's bumped back to bitch status... Same with the bolt guns. Same with the pistols. Same with the shotguns. Same with the Can Cannon!!! No other AR I have can do what the Can Cannon does, or make me laugh, like the Can Cannon does - hell, even THAT thing has a purpose! And it's "ideal!" If you shoot steel, just put a target out at 50 yards - and hit it with the Can Cannon!!! You WILL laugh your a$s off... I don't have one rifle that can do everything. There isn't such an animal. There isn't "one rifle" I'd want to take into a total collapse of society - I'd want to take a shopping cart full of different ones - for different reasons and capabilities of each one. 98Z5V
We'll DEFINITELY need DNP's photography skills for the pics. DNP needs to bring cameras, and photography goods. For certain. The pics will be Legendary, and end up in RECOIL Mag... That shopping cart has to be legit. As fuk. What I just realized is... I don't have an oven big enough to bake-on some Cerakote on a whole fucking shopping cart! NOW... I need a bigger oven, or I do it in the Air-Dry Cerakote. This is some challenging shiit...
