Aaaah, the 'Stumps'! My older son spent most of his 4 year hitch at the Marine air base at Yuma and as hot as it was there, he hated 29 Palms even more! Had to go there for a month each year for training.

My youngest was a whole other story, he did his MOS at the stumps and when his 2 years in Okinawa was up he requested to go there. He was born and raised a desert rat and actually liked it there.

Who is Patton, the leather guy? Waddn't no Marine that I knew of named Patton. I think the Armt guy from WWII may have been somewhere else except 29 Palms, I was there in 63 - 64 here is one of my souvenirs.

He tore that desert up. Did a lot of surveying out there trying to find section corners set in the early 1900’s and a good chunk of it was destroyed.  The weather there is just lovely in the summer and fall.
