Toolndie7 Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 These are not bb guns we are fiddling with so please take a moment to stop and think about what you are doing. This also goes for reloading too. If in doubt stop and ask somebody else. Don't want a brothers face behind a wreck like this.....
Matt.Cross Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 What's the story behind the pic brother?
Toolndie7 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Report Posted March 11, 2014 I found it while surfin the web, I believe he said the chamber was sopping wet with oil and the bolt didnt seat all the way, but im not sure.
survivalshop Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Looks like the hand guard survived . Looks like the bolt blew into the Carrier. Can't tell if thats a Billet upper . They can say the Larue mount saved them. Hope no one got hurt .
unforgiven Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Maybe we got to rethink the sopping wet oil trick.....unless that was 60wt.
shibiwan Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) Look at the other pics in that album. It's a DD upper. Some guy is pictured shooting it a page or two before the kaboom pics. Forge marks show that the upper began life at Anchor Harvey. http://brainonsigs.smugmug.com/BANG/Things-that-go-BANG/ Edited March 11, 2014 by shibiwan
Dane Armory Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Looks like a out of battery explosion.
Microgunner Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 The LaRue mount still looks usable. Gotta get me some of that LaRue stuff.
shepp Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 Balls!! Stealing the picture for the face book page
Dane Armory Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 Balls!! Stealing the picture for the face book pageMake sure you use some kind of caption with "I finally compleated the DD tortured test and WON !"
98Z5V Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 If the bolt isn't fully rotated in the barrel extension, and the bolt carrier isn't fully forward, then the firing pin is too short to reach the primer. There's much debate all over the 'net about out-of-battery explosions - but the above is the truth. If those conditions aren't met (bolt fully seated in extension, BCG fully forward), then the firing pin hitting the primer "early" isn't what's causing something like that. I'm just sayin'.
seasprite Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) From the pic the bolt looks to be in the extension still. Would like to know what happened. What about a squib just beyond the gas port ? Edited March 13, 2014 by seasprite
shibiwan Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 From the pic the bolt looks to be in the extension still. Would like to know what happened. Weak/cracked BCG maybe? Looks like it split right down the middle where the gas key screws are, starting at the gas chamber in the BCG.
survivalshop Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) Wonder if the BCG was MPI tested. Could be a lot of things that caused this , with out more info , we are only guessing . Edited March 13, 2014 by survivalshop
Toolndie7 Posted March 13, 2014 Author Report Posted March 13, 2014 could be pistol powder or an over charge also
EasyEJL Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 I kind of wonder whether its a 300 blackout fired in a 223 barrel. slam the forward assist a couple times to get it to chamber by pushing the bullet back into the case and whammo when you pull the trigger
planeflyer21 Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 Someone just posted a photo of a .300 BO fired in a 5.56 bull barrel. Rifle was hosed, barrel looked pretty good. They did a cut-a-way on the barrel and the .308 bullet had stretched out to about 3"! And sized down to .22 of course. Incredible!
survivalshop Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 Wrong powder would do it , but some thing had to happen with pressure ,because as noted , the bolt is still locked in the bbl. extension . Blocked or plugged barrel ? Did you see the one where some one left the cleaning rod in the bore , that thing blew pretty good .
Dane Armory Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 300blk in a 223rem , plus a hot load !
Microgunner Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 300blk in a 223rem , plus a hot load ! Could you get a 30cal bullet in a 223cal throat?
Dane Armory Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 Kinda like "}ohnny the Wad Holmes" made his stuff fit. It might chamber but when it blows it has to go somewhere... In this case its backwards ! "It's too big" !
