Armed Eye Doc Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 Man openly carrying new gun in Gresham robbed by armed man http://www.kptv.com/story/26729956/man-openly-carrying-new-gun-in-gresham-robbed-by-armed-man I am not against open carry. I just don't think it makes sense for me. I prefer to keep mine concealed. It seems like it would make you a target to those wanting to do harm, ie., "We're going to rob 7-11. That guy has a gun showing. We need to kill and disarm him first." I have been wrong before and could be wrong here. But I was never in the military or law enforcement and am always willing to learn. The kid (21) in the article was young and apparently not ready for the responsibilities of carrying a firearm in public.
MONTANA308 Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 I agree. I carry concealed all the time. I'm my opinion I just don't want anyone knowing I'm carrying!

Dane Armory Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 ^^^ it is better to be overlooked, then you have the advantage !
392heminut Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 If they know you're armed and they're still bent on carrying out their deed guess who will be the first person they take out, usually without warning! If I have to use a gun I prefer to be the one that has surprise on my side!
Robocop1051 Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 A person who open carries has to understand that their element of surprise is gone. If shiit goes down, they'd better be very fast, and ready to destroy a life. I'm sure that kid was neither. A CCW affords a person the option of involvement, or being a damn good witness.
planeflyer21 Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 Sadly, I'd say that's the majority of people that carry...open or concealed. Either the law says they are good to go or the state gave them a card, so they are good to go. No training or practice needed.
Armed Eye Doc Posted October 8, 2014 Author Report Posted October 8, 2014 You have all reaffirmed my beliefs. I still wouldn't open carry even if it was legal in TX. And most people with a firearm don't know how to use it well enough to do any good. I would likely include myself in that category to some degree. I shoot as often as possible, but I don't train for those situations like I should.
Microgunner Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 He was toting a Walther P22. I wonder if it came with a free box of tampons?
Matt.Cross Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 He was toting a Walther P22. I wonder if it came with a free box of tampons? Thanks for that informed perspective Captain Hi-Point.... LOL
Microgunner Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 Hi-Point is long gone. Like I said, it was a gift for my BIL. He's the dumbass.
shibiwan Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 ...and MG stealthily hides the Hi-Point....
Matt.Cross Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 Hi-Point is long gone. Like I said, it was a gift for my BIL. He's the dumbass. I don't know if I believe that... your credibility suffers from having bought a Hi-Point. *evil smirk*
Microgunner Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 That's my story and I'm etc etc etc.
Matt.Cross Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 On the original topic, situational awareness is critical no matter how you carry. Taking things for granted and not paying attention in the moment are the leading root causes of untimely deaths IMO. Keep your head on a swivel and learn to read people and read situations as they unfold. Let your guard down for even a moment and it could cost your life.
planeflyer21 Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Thanks for that informed perspective Captain Hi-Point.... LOL That made me laugh, and fart! It's like you read my mind, Matt! Edited October 9, 2014 by planeflyer21
Microgunner Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 That guy was getting robbed open carry or not. The felon didn't want a cigarette. It's why I try my best to prevent questionable strangers engaging me on the streets.
DNP Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 The gun used was black...and possibly semi auto. Thanks for the great description dipshit.

Yes,and since I have more empathy for animals than people I would have no problem bustin a cap in a motherfuker that would want to take my life or threathen my family.

98Z5V Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Personally, I don't have an issue with open carry. Or concealed carry. Time and place for each. I don't feel threatened in the least when I open carry, and I do that alot more than concealed carry.
StainTrain Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 I just wish more people would carry their damn handguns.....period. Instead of handing out free healthcare, we should hand out free combat handgun training to law abiding citizens. I suspect the latter would have a more positive overall impact on quality of life in the United States.
planeflyer21 Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 I just wish more people would carry their damn handguns.....period. Yup. An amazing number of people out there who play Life Lotto. "Nnnaahhh...I won't need it today," or "I may need it today, better put it on."

How many so-called 'bad-asses' would think twice about holding up a convenience store or shooting up a classroom if they knew every adult in the place was armed, ready, and able to take their butts out?
