Hello. I come from Japan. I am interested in  Americans and their gun culture. It is very fascinating and respectable. It moves me. I am interested also their 2nd Amendment. It reminds me of former Samurai in Japan. They do not longer exist no more. It is a warrior spirit many Japanese commend you for. We are not scare of guns in America. I came to the United States almost 5 year ago. Thank you. (^^)

First make sure it fits your hand !

Take a lesson/course, try several guns.

Go to an indoor range that rents guns and shoot a few different ones. Ask questions and listen to the instructor. Start with smaller calibers then work up. 22lr...380...9mm. .38spl

You may like a revolver instead of a semi auto pistol.

I only shot a .357 and 9mm so far.  I really like both so I will probably go for pistol  first I am looking at Walther and Glock. 9mm is cheap compared to .357 then later buy a rifle. I have big hands and tall for japanese 178cm. I have shot a Howa .308 Type 64 in Japan. Machine gun so fun!!! Ammo in .308/7.62 not cheap I see! (T_T) it was in military fair to recruit women into Japan Military.

Welcome from AZ!

Yes, training is best to get first and then purchase a handgun that fits you.  We have a training organization.  It is best to get the experience so you do not purchase a firearm that does not fit you well.

A legal resident alien may purchase a firearm.  We sold quite a few to RAs the last time I worked retail.  The person must be here on a work or student visa, IIRC.

I work for a company in Washington, Fuji Heavy Industries. We are to expand our operations in Idaho and Montana . I will move to Montana in 2018. I am gaining citizenship at the end of this year. Lots of inexpensive land with hydro power here.  Many Japanese have come here and we need to hire. (^^)

Welcome to the forum from Michigan. Depending on where you are living in Washington, there are a few decent places to go for handgun training. I lived in the puget sound area so I know those locations.

Check out West Coast Armory and Insight training. They offer pretty good training and the staff are approachable. Some people will mention Wades gun shop but in my opinion they are not as professional.

Good luck in your pursuit and keep us posted on your progress. Soredewa mata.

Fuji!  do you have any hookups for cool JDM subaru parts???

Lol welcome from az

I handle their communications between Japan and US and manage their Aerospace and Chemical division accounts. From my knowledge, we only ship to dealer principals and manufacturer warehouses for parts. If you mean, consumer market. I would have no idea, as I do not work in that division. We havesoooo many accounts in the automotive division.

welcome to the site from North Carolina... if you are familiar with the 357, a revolver may be the way to go for you... with the 357 you can also shoot 38special in the same gun... only difference is the 357 is a bit longer case length...  with the 38 special you can get a multitude of different loads from soft firing wadcutter target ammo up to 38 plus P which is just under 357 in power... with 38's in a 357 revolver, the extra weight of the 357 frame makes it a very manageable gun to shoot...
