It's not even "cold" in Alaska right now, compared to past years. I'm just sayin'... -15* at Fort Wainwright. That place is usually -50* right now, through March. Man you sure got a bee in your bonnet…… that’s not even cold for Wisconsin in January, but it’s cold enough! Then the wind on top of it.. I don't even want to leave the house in the morning for work - might have frost on the windshield...

sketch
Went to the hills today to find a long range area. We found it. Snow level is 3500' in the 20's for the next few days.
BrianK
Very unusual winter so far (Maine) just another of many. The left will claim man made global warming and I don't deny the climate is changing. BUT and that's a big but, we're between glacial periods (aka an inter-glacial period). No one left a written record of what happens during these so we have no idea what to expect. Plus the output of the sun also changes and we have that going on now as well. And the left is on what, the 3rd "We have 20 years before we all die!" the sky is falling predictions. (Do they even still do them after the 1st 2 failed predictions?) But anyway, it took forever for the ground to freeze. Very little snow so far and what we have gotten has melted due to warmish rain. Today in the sun it was in the mid 40s. Not bad for mid January. But that is going to change. We're headed back into the deep freeze. Not like 40+ years ago where we'd get <-30 degrees but cold for today. We also might get up to 8" of snow but the ground is frozen so I can move it. I'm likin' this weather. Screw the polar bears. They'll find something to eat. Plus we need the Territory of Greenland to thaw so that we can drill and look for minerals. Approx' 2 1/2 months until it's warm enough for me to even consider shooting again. I hate wishing my life away, but "Come On Spring! "
shepp
Another push of arctic air, as long as the wind stays down it’s not terrible, but we really need some precipitation, we’ve had very little snow this winter, like less than 8-10”

KSdefender
+3 this morning, -3 tomorrow morning. Highs in teens-low 20's. BUT warming up to maybe 40 on Thursday. Clear, at least. My wife's sister and husband have a "winter house" in Gulf Shores, AL. Always bragging about that and the weather there. THIS week they'll see mid-20's and some ice/snow mix. Inside I'm laughing. I'm a bad person.

BrianK
Yeah, the temp is dropping here also. At 5ish it was 12 degrees and it's expected to gey to near zero by morning. So I lit the wood stove. That only happens if it's going to be <20 degrees for at least a day. We're expecting to keep that fire going until the end of the week. Of all the ways we can heat our home, heat pumps, oil, or wood I far prefer wood. The heat is steady. The dog likes it too since she can curl up in front of it, where she is as I write.. I drove home today lots of people in the country had their stoves stoked! Unfortunately our newish wood stove burns so clean that it doesn't have that smell and the smell it does have out the chimney is unidentifiable as being from wood. But I get the wood smoke smell from the neighbors. This morning at 0730 it was -4 and right now it's 2 degrees. But the forecast is for a colder Wednesday morning than today (-8). Throw another stick of wood in the stove.

BrianK
My wife told me it was -17 this morning. I didn't check, I just knew it was cold. But today got into the low 30s in the sun. It's going to cloud over tonight and get a bit warmer as the night progresses with show showers tomorrow.
