Madhouse
Maine was nice. All my family up there was complaining about the heat, I got tired of saying, "You don't know heat!"
Madhouse
Here, heat warnings every days, it's brutal. After I mowed the lawn last weekend I walked over to the ditch and puked four times. Way overheated. It'll lift though, and my seasons will come, fall and winter,
BrianK
OK so I didn't check the temp' today but I'd be surprised if it went above 75. We had some humidity and it looked like it was going to rain any second but other than extremely light rain in the early morning, nothing. But we've had lots of rain this year. Those with wells that go dry, I doubt that they're having problems this year. Tomorrow rai is forecast, then for the week temps not going over 75, lower humidity, and sun. Hopefully low or no wind. I need to get to the range. Edited August 19 by BrianK typo
Cunuckgaucho
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ucf72Zpri3JXbtiP8 It's funny reading some of the poor reviews of the area, no cell service,no paved road, no amenities! It's wilderness not a KOA campground Saturday was nice and sunny but no complaints when we got light rain early Sunday morning which was appreciated but still not enough to get us out of the high fire risk. Right beside a snow/glacier fed river , those are onion sacks keeping the canned goods nice and chilled. The water is a bit gritty so the upstream side of the cans get a bit of a sand blast. Sisco
Staring down a category 3 in our Florida place. The eye projects to pass five to ten miles to the East. Fingers crossed.
unforgiven
Tough to live in Florida these days when more people are not able to get homeowners insurance and if they can to get it at a reasonable price.
BrianK
Wishing you well Sisco. We've been very dry for weeks(?) now. Our well is fine, we can't pump it down if I run it out on the ground 24/7/365, but I bet folks with marginal shallow wells might be having problems. Today we have soaking rain so it'll soak in and heavier rain tonight and tomorrow. I wanted to get to the range tomorrow but that's probably not going to happen. Sisco
Looks like the eye of hurricane Helene will come ashore about 45 miles east of us at 10:00 pm eastern. Hope things hold together.

sketch
My aunt is in leesburg. Seems she misses the path by a long shot. They had a tree fall that was it. Stay safe Sisco

Armed Eye Doc
@shooterrex, are you getting any of the rain?
shooterrex
Got about 2 1/2 " so far. 15mph wind gusting to 35. A few branches and limbs down but not bad.
Sisco
49 miles to our east and we got a 3 foot storm surge that was it. Carolinas got whooped, as did Georgia and the coast on the east side of the eye

BrianK
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he wrote! Yesterday it was overcast with an almost imperceptible air movement, it really couldn't be called a breeze. Very unusual for that range that ALWAYS has wind. So I went to the range. I had a Contender barrel threaded and wanted to test it and make sure the scope was zeroed after reinstallation. It was and I had to touch nothing. Putting the can on it gave groups roughly 2x the size w/o the can. I was shooting from a rest but I'm not the handgun shooters I was even 20 years ago (aging sux!). I feel the handgun can do much better than the groups suggest. The black dots are 1" diameter. https://postimg.cc/qtX7wvgQ

BrianK
Well, it took over a month as compared to our statistical norm, but we finally had a killing frost. Most times our first is in early to mid Sept'. Hopefully the winter will be just as mild (not a chance!). The last few days have been in the 50s and 60s. And there is a definite fall bite to the air. My favorite time of the year.
Cunuckgaucho
It seems we're getting our first atmospheric river event of the season this weekend. I prefer the old name which was a Pineapple Express.
shooterrex
Light frost last 2 mornings. 1 more day of that then back to highs of 70 and lows in the upper 40s. I can turn the furnace back off.

Rsquared
Yeah, we've only been dipping down into the mid to low 40's this week, and climbing into the low 70's throughout the day. No humidity. I've been enjoying it after the ball sticking summer that the DC area annually gets.
