New to the forum, new to the .308, lot's of time on the AR platform, lot's of mods to existing AR-15 which made it easy to pickup the .308 AR. Have a DPMS Gen 2, owned it less than a year and so far I like it except for the flash hinder and quad rail. I went with the Recon since I needed to mount lights and IR for night hunting hogs. Hoping to learn what really fits on them. Planning on replacing the flash hinder with a BCM comp and  replacing the hand guard with one from Samson.

Welcome to the forums!

HI from behind enemy lines. At least it feels that way living here in Berkeley CA. I had a SCAR for a minute and would have had a Desert Tech MDR, but settled on the LMT 308 MWS as my only battle rifle. It has been 18 months now and I am really happy with it.

I make a living as a mechanical designer and systems guy focaused on innovation in action sports equipment. I recently filed patents on new lean steering technology for skateboards and the like which allows tight turning, deep deck lean, and speed stability (no more speed wobbles). Anyhow, given my work and gear tendencies it is natural for me to tinker with the rifle as an on going process.

I am 62 and a relatively new shooter, I look forward to getting to know you folks, to learning, and building skills.

Thanks for having me,

Rasyad

FNG in middle Tennessee. Shot pistols and shotguns forever, AR-15s for a while and started shooting long range bolt guns 4 years ago. First two were .308s. Fast forward and now my target guns are 6.5 Creedmoor my hunting rifle is 280 AI and I know I need a .308 but for SHTF, etc 10lb plus 10 round capacity bolt guns don't make a ton of sense.

I hand load and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can kind of accuracy I can get out of budget components versus budget fmj ammo.

yea, ive been browsing their products.  I was thinking id go with fully assembled uppers with a properly head spaced bolt carrier group and stick with 100% aero parts for one of the builds, the second will be 100% aero parts on the lower but possibly a DPMS oracle upper receiver.  I like that plain stock 16" carbine look of the AR, but im concerned about the possibility of an unreliable rifle if i mix manufacturers.

Judging from this picture it seems you are severely lacking in AR platform guns but if you hang around here these guys will make sure that is rectified! They're aces at helping spend other peoples' money!:lmao:

Welcome to the board!

Welcome to the board!

ive actually got two ARs in 5.56, and four 5.56 stripped lower receivers that still need to be built.  VAIhyTd.jpg

sounds like you need to use the lowers that need to be rebuilt for a 6.5 Grendel, .300 Blk, .224 Valkyrie, and maybe a .458 Socom. ?

ive been kicking around the idea for awhile, actually more tempted by 6.8 although a little apprehensive about getting into another caliber, because that means il have to buy at least 5000 rounds of it too.  you know what i really want to do is get something belt fed.  i was eyeing the DSA arms RPD, however ive heard they discontinued production, and the ones left are likely unreliable.  so maybe il end up turning one of the stripped lowers into a dedicated lower for a fightlite MCR belt fed upper.  id really like an FN M249 SAW but dont have a spare $8000.00
