Interesting how the barrel didn't split along the lines of the rifling.

 

Point #1: Excellent observation!

Point #2: There is an excellent reason it didn't, which clues us in to a specific feature of the barrel profile.

 

Question: What is the feature in question, and why did it dictate the manner in which the barrel split?
