what do you guys do to maximize space in your gun safes?

the trick to those gangboxes is thieves look for tools on job sites and houses.. I watched a dumb ass cutting plywood with a skillsaw cut right through the top of a gangbox. "knackbox" like butter! most likely wont look in a file cab.. right? I could bar it open quietly though! so then you need cameras, security system, dogs!

The safe with AR's have them all leaning a different way, alternating - the stocks keep me from stacking one in every slot.  In the hunting rifle safe, they're stacked three deep, leaning on each other - I minimize contact with each other using gun socks, etc.

Dang, I need another safe.

Do you bolt them to the bed of your pickup?

Haven't had the need to so far. Keep in mind. I've done the cannonball run style of trips when I've gone from my place to Tom's. Only stopping for gas/piss breaks. So it's not like they've been out of my sight. And once at Tom's, I'll unload the rifles overnight before we head out into the desert the following day.

Locally, keep in mind that I'm a hermit, and that I don't go anywhere except to work and back for the most part. So I never have the need to transport a box of that size. Maybe only a couple rifles that get tossed in the back, at the most.

Zero need, 10 Arnold-sized bodybuilders aren't lifting that thing out, when it's loaded.  You could chain it down to make yourself feel better, but when you load one of these things up, it is HEAVY...

No $hit right? The typical load-out that I've jammed into one of these to do the AZ run :

MRAD, AR-10 SSASS, AR-10 carbine, AR-10 SBR, DD MK-18, 300 BLK SBR. Plus a couple of pistols. Plus 4 suppressors, various optics and other things like bipods for different rifles (usually stowed with it's rifle in it's bag). And, all of the mags for all of the weapons.

Plus, I've usually brought at least one other rifle (s) as an off-shoot to show that I do have other interest's outside of AR's :laffs:

As Tom said above. You load all of this $hit into one of these boxes, and they're pretty tough to move. And like I said before, if you wanted to, you could start with a layer of ammo cans in the bottom to add even more weight to them. You won't move these without the help of a forklift.

Think I will get one for transport purposes.

I built a box to go in the back of the wife's FJ. I designed it to fit exactly and to be unnoticed with the door closed and normal travel gear on top.

Around Christmas time my dad decided he wasn't going to renew his foid card which means for us IL residents its illegal to posess a firearm without one.  He's very old school libertarian minded and thinks its none of the government's business if or how many firearms he has. Anyway he's getting up there in years and when he found out you had to go on a website to renew that was the final straw for him.  I've got a nice large safe at my house and he decided to start sending them over to me a few at a time; "They're going to be yours someday anyway" he says. Needless to say I was excited about this, my father has a lot of cool guns including a really nice collection of Winchester model 12's. Well after a few trips of bringing guns in I'm quickly running low on storage space inside the safe. Basic configuration is half the safe has the gun racks to store the firearms veritically and the other half is shelving where I store ammo and other parts, components, etc.  Specifically what I have noticed is my black guns take up 2-3 spaces in the safe versus just one space for most of the other firearms I've been bringing in. Four different AR's with a pistol grip on one end and an optic on the other and a 308AR with similar configuration take up nearly half the space. Obviously, I could add racking to the other half but I really don't want to go that route yet and I certainly don't want to spring for another safe. I don't want to remove optics from rifles for obvious reasons and it seems like a hassle to remove the pistol grips from each one to gain space. I had the thought of removing the lowers and getting some of those guide rods that go in the barrel to store them but I wasn't sure if the rods would be long enough with the lower removed from the upper to reach the top side rack. Sorry for the long winded post I was just trying to accurately explain my issue. Any advise and help would be most welcome!

It's time to build a walk-in gun room!
