Sisco      " Found a six position carbine buffer and spring used for $10 at a gun show "    ya think that maybe this could be your problem?:laffs:   Wash

Maybe, but it is in excellent shape. I am going to fiddle with it and see if I can make it work before picking up a new buffer/spring. That will be an option though. When I pull the charging handle back manually on an empty slide, it will not catch, so it has to be a clearance problem, not a lack of energy to pull the bolt back. It cycles beautifully.

So you are saying it wont lock back if you pull the charging handle back and manually activate the bolt catch?

No it doesn’t. I will get into it tomorrow, but I think I have the buffer tube screwed in one turn too many. If not I will do some troubleshooting and see.

Tried it out at the range today with some M855 green tip. It ran flawlessly except it would not lock back on an empty magazine. I only had one magazine with, so I will have to see what happens with a different one, but I am guessing the BCG is going back far enough to chamber, but not quite far enough to lock open. Any quick fixes? Thinking I might try unscrewing the buffer tube one turn and retightening the stock ring to see if that allows it.

Had screwed the buffer tube too far-in. Backed off one turn, Was still enough to hold the detente pin and spring down. Reassembled and it now holds the bolt back-on both the bolt catch and an empty magazine.
