imschur Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 As some know I was dealt a pretty crappy deal recently and was scrambling to find a place to rent that would allow a guy with 6 cats, a woodshop and an arsenal. After logging hundreds of miles and viewing about thirty houses we found something to call our own. The property is not ideal but everything else was "just right". Feels pretty funny buying our first home at 49 and 53 years old. Anyhow if all goes well i wont need an interim place to live. My woodshop might. looking at Dec 18ish for a closing
DNP Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 R2's place looks pretty empty...I bet he can house a wood shop for a while. Don't think he's not gonna fondle some tools though. Congrats and good luck on the escrow.
slugger43 Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 And I think there's some guy on here who could possibly teach you how to live in a refrigerator for a little while.... At least I've heard that. And you wouldn't have R2 coon-fingering your tools.Congrats on having your own home! Hope your closing goes smooth as silk and that you can celebrate Christmas in your new digs. Happy for ya!
mrmackc Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 You will do fine. But it will be a busy couple of years. My Dad bought his first house at 52 and had it paid off and free and clear in 15 years, he lived there 24 years.I have bought 3 homes since I was 28 and then bought land in 1989 then when I retired we built in 1997 our retirement home, not very big but it suits us fine. and we paid as we built. I t gives you a good feeling to not pay rent.
Malig8r Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Congratulations on the new home!!!I haven't gone down that road yet. Seems I move about every 5 to 7 years so waiting to settle down before I make that commitment.
washguy Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Congrats Drew ! you are living the American dream! Wash
Rsquared Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Good for you Drew. I'm glad things seem to be working out. Of course, moving through the holiday season......eeeshh. Hell....moving anytime of year sucks enough as it is. But at least you'll be landing in your own place when it's done. Happy for you brother.
Sisco Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Congrats! Good news is you should have some extra tax writeoffs. Including moving.
jtallen83 Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Congrats! May your taxes be low and your repairs few!
EngrBob Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Just don't dial up "The Money Pit" on Netflix before you close!
Armed Eye Doc Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 I hope it all works out well for you.
Matt.Cross Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 Awesome Drew, when is the 308AR housewarming?
imschur Posted October 29, 2015 Author Report Posted October 29, 2015 Thanks guys. My girl is the one buying it on paper. She has an incredible credit score. Mine is close to embarrassing. She's also 3/4 of the deposit. It seems I piss away a lot of money and neither of us makes that much. I just work a couple jobs. Leaving my current situation will end my career as a property manager. I wont miss that gig one bit.My panel saw is going to a new home. The rest of the woodshop will follow us but that damn Delta Unisaw will take up a lot of garage. I attached an image of that for kicks
Armed Eye Doc Posted October 29, 2015 Report Posted October 29, 2015 Very nice looking place. I think the saw would easily fit in one of a couple of those rooms. :)
imschur Posted October 29, 2015 Author Report Posted October 29, 2015 I have this funny idea. Backing up a uhaul on a busy Saturday afternoon. Unload the woodshop......unload guitars, amps and speaker cabinets....wheel the gun safes in......carry the guns in one at a time.Monday morning for sale signs up and down the street.
